With the influx of new members because of Mom stepping down as mod at Fever, I thought it might be a good idea to tell everyone a little bit about this board.
Some of you might know the mods and admins here from Fever or from other boards; some of you may not. Basically, we're a bunch of jokesters and goofballs. We love talking about the Steelers as well as other interests (hence the many off-topic forums). But most importantly, we like to have fun here.
When we started this board last April, I was asked several times why was there a need for another Steelers board? Basically, we wanted to be a part of a board where having fun was the top priority. We wanted a board that wasn't filled with a bunch of anonymous posters constantly getting into pissing matches. We wanted a board where everyone was welcome to express their opinions without fear of getting personally attacked. We wanted an environment kinda like a bunch of friends sitting around drinking beers and talking about the Steelers. Or politics. Or music. Or whatever we wanted to talk about. We wanted to build a community of friends.
That doesn't mean that there can't be disagreements. Debates are fun, and we encourage them here. But we ask that everyone try to debate respectfully. The basic rule is attack the argument, not the poster. Our banner says: "Join the fun! It's not just another football forum." That's not just an empty slogan. That's the kind of environment we're trying to foster here ... a message board where Steelers fans (or fans of other teams) can hang out, talk about the Black and Gold or any number of other topics, and have some fun. If your idea of fun is getting into a pissing match on an Internet message board and calling someone a douche, and idiot, or whatever, then this probably isn't the board for you.
We're not naive enough to believe that everyone is always going to get along, especially when you have a large group of people with different views and opinions. Sometimes debates get heated, even among friends. And that's fine, just as long as at the end of the day, we recognize that we're all friends here and we're here to have fun.
When you join Steelers Xtreme, you're not just an anonymous poster on an Internet message board ... you're family. It might be a dysfunctional family at times, but it's a family nonetheless.

Is it bad that I spend more time on here with my online family rather than with my actual one?

I have an uncanny ability to set myself up for ridicule. It's almost like a superpower.

I look at this way any family is going to have disagreements. Hell, my oldest son is a Broncos and Jets fan fan. How the hell that happened I'll never know! Basically I blame his mother I think she dropped him on his head when he was a baby! But the thing about my adopted family on here is that although we may at time disagree, in the end we all love our Steelers!

Well put Wally. Being one of the "veteran" members, I want to say that watching this board grow has been awesome. Each new member seems to fit right in (though it may take them some time to figure out all of our little jokes). As Wally has always said, this isn't one person's board- it's a COMMUNITY board. That means the responsibility to make this the best Steelers board out there isn't on the Mods and the Admins, it's on each and every member. If we all do our job, there is no doubt this will be one of the best (and most uncanny ) boards on the net. Cheers and happy posting!
