It is true. As sad as I am to see him retire, it really was time. I appreciate everything that he has done for the Steelers. We were truly blessed to have him on our team and he will for sure be in the Hall of Fame.

Troy Polamalu’s illustrious 12-year career with the Steelers apparently has come to an end.
Polamalu told Jim Wexell of Scout.com in a phone call Thursday that he has decided to retire.
“I did not consider playing elsewhere,” Polamalu said. “It was just whether or not I wanted to play. I had talked to a lot of people about what I should do with my situation.”

I think this says it all.
It was time. I'm glad he's retiring a Steeler rather than playing as a shell of his former self someplace else.

I knew this was coming, but it still makes me soft to hear it.

If he is not a walk in 5 years from now there is NO justice. He was a great Steelerand a pillar of the community. Thank you Troy for all you.'ve done.

I was hoping this was a nightmare but sadly it is reality. Thank you, Troy. You redefined the position and I will always miss watching you play on Sunday. Each week that 43 was gearing up was a good week.

Other team's fans are rejoicing in the streets today.
Steelers fans can only glare, throw their hands in the air, and realize there will never be another "My name is my hair" player the likes of Troy Polamalu.
He's one of the greatest.
I'm guessing in 5 years we can all converge on Canton for his induction!

Best to ever play the position PERIOD.
God bless you Troy, glad I was able to see you play your entire career.
It was time and we all knew it would happen eventually, but still a tough pill to swallow.
Hes the type of player you'll tell your grandkids about 50 years for now.
Great player, even better human

A sad day indeed. One of the all-time greatest Steelers to ever play. He will become a Steeler legend in the same breath as Joe Greene, Lambert, Blount, Franco and the like as soon as he's inducted into Canton. It just won't be the same watching a Steeler game without seeing that wild mane of hair flying around the field like a bushy missile making amazing play after amazing play.
I'm glad Troy decided to retire a Steeler and not don another uniform to try to squeak out another year or two on the downside when he has nothing left to prove. Thank you for all the awesome years of football excellence, Troy. You'll truly be missed, but always have a special place in Steelers fans' hearts. Enjoy your retirement. You've earned it.

Really enjoyed watching him create havoc on the opposing offenses. The old saying: "Great players make great plays in big games" typified Troys career with the Steelers.
Now it's time to see if Shamarko "Hammy" Thomas can hold down the fort playing next to Mike "Oh Snap, My Groin" Mitchell.

As much as it pained me to watch him dash the Ravens' post-season hopes time and time again, he was not only the best at his position, but a class act all around. He will be missed and I hope he does well in his post-football life.

The guy was a guided missile with huge hair. No-one else played the position like him, and I doubt anyone ever will. The speed of a sprinter, the awareness of a hawk, the hitting ability of an 18 wheeler. The total package.
