I've never really gotten into Bond movies, but I think I understand what you mean. Everything has to be so self-referential it becomes sickening.

It was ok. Had all the action you could want but missing the old charm

We see eye-to-eye on the majority of things.
But, not this. In my opinion, even the action scenes sucked. Think of the parkour scene in Casino Royale... nothing in this movie comes remotely close to being as entertaining.
That said, I'd watch it again before I watched The Good Dinosaur again.
