I'll admit I haven't had a chance to follow them as of late, but I know it's playoff hockey time. From the sounds of it, they'll be playing the Lightning in the first round. Which will be nice, I might actually get to go to a hockey playoff game.
So bring on the PENS NEWS!

If the Pens win and the Flyers lose tomorrow or whenever the games are played, the Pens will win the division and will get the number two seed!
Glad you get to see them truck...we'll probably go to the big screen outside Civic on the 23rd, but that's about it. Tickets are crazy expensive for playoffs here.

I'm stocked to see them next week. Plus my buddy at work just bought me and The Princess a Crosby jersey! Now that's even made the night even more special.

Pens last night had a two goal lead only to give two PP goals before taking a 3-2 lead and finishing strong. The Lightning had an opportunity in the last minute as they stormed the Pens net but Fleury was tough in net.
The Pens can take a 3-1 lead against the Lightning on Wed night as they play the 2nd game in Tampa (4th of the series). It is an opportunity to bring the series home and win it on home ice.
The Pens have been winning this series without Crosby (concussion) and Malkin (knee). It is unknown if Crosby will return during this series or be held out based on what the Pens do tomorrow night. Malking has already been ruled out for the remainder of this season.
LET'S GO PENS LET'S GO PENS

I was there for that game, and because The Princess had conked out I couldn't stand to see the play but I had a great view of the net. I didn't see his shot, but I saw the net rattle and for a split second everyone in the St Pete Times Forum was silent...then like electricity you could hear the PENS fans sound off.
Great game!

Another lack luster performance by the PENS (overall) and the lightning have new life and new hope. After scoring first, the PENS seem to sit back on their skates a bit and the more aggressive lightning took their speed and used it well.
It seems since their 8 goal barrage Saturday night the lightning have been the team that wants to be in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Wednesday night will determine this series. Winner moves on, Loser plays golf!

Well the Penguins played flat footed and with the exception of the final 15 minutes of play, they looked outplayed by the Lightning. The Lightning wanted this game more and they took it right from underneath the Pens.
Since the 8-2 blowout, the Lightning have shown life while the Penguins couldn't muster enough gumption to put the Lightning away after leading the series 3-1.

Pens won their season opener last night, 4-3 in a SO. Was an absolutely fantastic game to watch.
The good: - Fleury was spectacular. Some of the saves he made were just out of this world. He looked focused and confident. Definitely glad to see him in that shape (mentally and physically) to start the season. - Cooke had a fantastic game as well. He had 2 goals, one a power play goal, the other a shorthanded goal. And he was all over the place...his name was called all evening. Glad to see him stepping up. - Geno's shootout goal. It was just spectacular...and the fact that it was Geno doing it (he typically isn't very good in the SO) made it even more spectacular. He also had a nice assist on the first power play goal to Neal.
The bad: - Geno the rest of the game. It was painful to watch. Constantly getting beat, constantly losing the puck and constantly falling down. Lot's of things he still needs to work on. I'm happy he got some confidence and redemption out of the SO goal though...he's going to need it.
The ugly: - Nothing really, unless you want to just consolidate the bad and the ugly...cause sometimes it was just bad and others it was really ugly lol.
Here's the video recap for any who missed it.
Just realized that vid cuts off the end of the SO. Here's a vid of the SO.

Pacioretty slated for NHL hearing Monday Sunday, 11.27.2011 / 10:10 AM / News NHL.com
Montreal forward Max Pacioretty will have a phone hearing with the NHL Monday morning for his hit on Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang during the third period of the Penguins' overtime win in Montreal Saturday night.

No penalty called on this play either. That was a good game, but I wish we hadn't of given the Habs a point. Pacioretty's an ass. Hope he gets suspended.

Pac is not a dirty player and I don't think this was intentional, but he probably should be fined/suspended for the play. Short suspension, 1-2 games max.

So, if you guys weren't depressed enough already...the Pens are here and ready to help with that!
They're on a 4 game losing streak, and as if that wasn't enough, the injuries continue to pile up. They lead the league in man games lost, and are on pace to shatter their total from last year.
In fact, we are barely even rooting for the Pens anymore at this point. It's more like the WB Pens and Geno.
The latest injuries are to Staal and Neal. Staal has an MCL injury and will be out 4-6 weeks. No surgery needed thankfully. Neal has a broken foot and will be out for "weeks".
They are just in a complete tailspin right now. It's about halfway through the season, and they have a 1 point lead at the #8 spot in the conference. It really could go either way from here. I know they can turn it around an still make some noise in the playoffs....but if guys don't start getting healthy, there's a real chance they won't even make the playoffs. $20 million dollars worth of players are injured right now. Ridiculous.

I said the Steelers would be a first round exit.
I said the Tide would get revenge...and number fourteen.
I also said the Pens would win Lord Stanley.
That covers all the teams I truly care about. :D

I truly hope your crystal ball works for the Pens!
Last night was just embarrassingly horrible. Biggest surprise though was Neal playing. They said he doesn't have a broken foot (just badly bruised), but it was some kind of birth defect that the xray picked up? He is wearing the protective shield though. Guess he said it's actually easier to skate than it is to walk.
'tis bleak and grey in the 'burgh right now.

Me too. There's still time left. If it's March and we're still this bad...then I'm worried.

Well, the losing streak hits 6. Pens fall to the Caps in Washington 1-0. I think they've scored something like 6 goals in the past 5 or 6 games now? Something unreal like that.
A little bit of good news. Neal has played the last two games...wasn't a broken foot, just some kind of calcium deposit the x-ray picked up. Just badly bruised. Adams, Jeffrey and Asham are all back. And Crosby is supposed to start solo skating in the next day or two. Hopefully that's a good sign. Someone needs to score a goal or two here.

Letang Will Play Tonight vs. NYR Thursday, 01.19.2012 / 1:48 PM / Features By Michelle Crechiolo http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=612531&cmpid=pit-fb-pghpenguins
Kris Letang is back.
Head coach Dan Bylsma confirmed that the Penguins defenseman will return to the lineup Thursday against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden after missing the last 21 games with a broken nose and concussion sustained Nov. 26 vs. Montreal.
“Excitement,” Letang said when asked how he feels about returning after such a lengthy absence. “When you’ve been out of the lineup for a long time like this, you just want to get back out there with your teammates and be part of the team.”
While Bylsma will be monitoring Letang’s minutes, he said the plan is to utilize him both in a top-four role and on the power play.
“It certainly is a situation where you’re not looking to get him too many minutes, but I still think he’s going to be used in a top-four role against their good players and on the power play,” Bylsma said. “So he’s going to play a fair amount of minutes in tonight’s game.”

Great to see this team getting healthy!

To add to the excitement of the 7 game win streak (if you missed any of these games, shame on you...they've been fantastic!), Letang along with Neal have been added to the all star roster.
Letang, despite missing 21 games, is replacing Byfuglien. And Neal is replacing the butthurt Ovechkin...who was just suspended 3 games for his hit on Michalek. Obitchken was allowed to participate in the All Star events, but chose not to because he didn't want to be a distraction (I guess he doesn't realize nobody really gives a shit about him this year).
Neal definitely deserved to be there over Ovechkin anyhow, so I'm very happy about this. It's too bad Crosby is still injured and that Fleury didn't make it this year (he had a great time last year!), but it'll be fun to see Letang, Neal and Malkin shine!

Ovechkin is such a whiny little pussy bitch. Nobody is going to miss him except for the morons who voted for him. It is a fucking atrocity that Neal wasn't put into the game in the first place.
