| Defensive end Aaron Smith was at the Steelers practice facility on Wednesday, checking in after having surgery on his neck last week.
“Right now I feel good,” said Smith. “It went well. Recovery, just one week out you are still trying to recover and get rid of that operation and the funk you go through.”
Smith, who was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 22, had been bothered by the neck as far back as Super Bowl XLIII, but thought it was just the result of playing football and hitting. This year he injured his foot and while sidelined noticed the neck was still bothering him, making him realize there was a problem.

| As much as I love Aaron Smith and the way he's been the man it's good to know we have it covered. I think he's played his last game at least as a starter with us. Hate to see it but it is part of the game. | |

I agree. Smith was great for us and will be missed, but his time as a starter is done here. Ziggy Hood will now grab the torch from Smith and run with it and I feel comfortable with that. He's been really good thus far in his career and will only get better. _________________ -"I stand corrected... He's been really good thus far in his career and will only get better. You're right and I actually think Ziggy will do more than take on blockers.I look for him to get his fair share of sacks. Not only that but if you notice with the addition of Heyward we're looking more like a team that can play either the 3-4 or 4-3 if we had to. Tomlin ran it his whole career until he got here. He was smart enough not to mess with LeBeau's success but they (so called experts on NFL network) even predicted we'd see some 4-3 lineups with Woodley out but we've more than held our own not having to. Who knows if this will change when LeBeau retires or we have to pry his cold dead hands from that playbook. I hope it's the latter. | |
