I watched Bottle Shock over the weekend. The synopsis looked interesting as the movie was about wines from California beating French wines duiring a blind tasting in France in the late 70's. Unfortunately, they had to give you all of the backstory, complete with overly dramatic scenes. The worst part was how ridiculous the characters were about wine. One guy tells his boss that you can't just get into winemaking, you have to be born with it in your blood. Then there's a scene of vineyards with Alan Rickman doing a voiceover reading poems about wine. This lead to my wife commenting that his character was probably jerking off while drinking wine, which was then followed by jokes of "Have you ever had a wine so beautiful that you (insert increasingly filthy actions)" The whole part with the wine tasting and those frogs being embarrassed took up only the last 15 minutes.

I have Devil on my computer. Contemplating if I want to watch it for a good laugh...but then again there are so many good movies out there I could spend my time with.

I saw Kick Ass yesterday morning and it did manage to live up to its name. There was a great mix of action, comedy, and even drama. Also, any movie with a foul-mouthed 11 year old killing machine gets a thumbs up in my book.

Speaking of that little girl, I saw another movie with her in it (and some of you suggested) called "Let Me In". It was a different kind of vampire movie with a Shakespearian "Romeo and Juliet" vine to it (and not subtly). I liked it. It was a nice change of pace vampire flick. That little girl is a badass and is going to grow up to be a hottie and a half. Definitely worth the rental.

If you've read the Obscure/Foreign Films thread, you'd know that this was a remake of Let The right One In, which is the best vampire movie in a long time.

I'll have to check that out, Jon. I definitely liked "Let Me In".

I watched Margot at the Wedding yesterday. It was pretty boring and was basically 90 minutes of people being mean to one another, but not in an entertaining way. I was disappointed as I became a fan of Noah Baumbach after watching The Squid and the Whale, which was excellent. Also, I hate Nicole Kidman.

Man.... Jack Black is one funny dude, but for the life of me I can't figure out why the vast majority of his movie roles blow donkeys. I LOVED "Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny" though. Awesome movie that I know you'd like if you haven't already seen it, VA.

Just watched this the other night. Had heard the soundtrack prior to watching it and thought it was pretty good. I didn't watch the original and didn't think this one was too great either... but I would watch it again.

I think a lot of people forgot that the original Tron was nothing special.

I have heard very good things about The Proposition as well, but never got around to seeing it. I watched Eight Men Out yesterday, the story about the Chicago Black Sox scandal. I'll be doing a full review on it in a couple days.

"The Proposition" is sitting at my house from Netflix right now. I hope to watch it within the next few days.

Thanks, Jon, for "The Proposition" recommendation. I just got finished watching it. Great movie with excellent acting. How did I not hear about this movie sooner?

We really gave it our best shot to watch The Proposition the other night. We both got roughly a half hour into it before falling asleep. Please someone tell me something exciting happens after that, because it was a really, really slow beginning. Should I try watching it again after a pot of coffee or something? Or does the pace stay the same? I love Guy Pearce and had high hopes for the film...but had a lot of trouble getting into it. It probably doesn't help that I only like westerns better than chick flicks either (which I typically despise). So it might just not be the right kind of movie for me at all. Jon does enjoy westerns though, and he had a lot of trouble getting into it as well. Just wondering if it gets any better.

I thought it got good. It did start slow though. It's not really an action-packed shoot 'em up. It does have some action, but it's more of a brother's struggle to come to terms with the evilness of his sibling.

It sounds a lot like the Finnish movie Sauna in basic premise...except Sauna is more of a horror film. It's more slow paced as well with just tension building up throughout most of the movie and not very much action at all. I think The Proposition being a western had a lot to do with me having trouble with it. 3:10 to Yuma was about the slowest western I've enjoyed. I think by reading the tag "savage and bloody" made me think something completely different was going to be going on.
I'm going to use this chance to pimp Sauna again though...just one of the best horror/thrillers I've ever seen. I watched it again a couple weeks ago, so I think that counts as latest movies I've watched.

For a western, it was savage and bloody. I've never seen a western as graphically violent as this one before. The action is just few and far between. Definitely more of a tension building "what the hell is gonna happen" film.

I'll give it another chance sometime then. I don't necessarily need constant action to enjoy a movie, but with me not being a big western fan the slow pace (and half a bottle of wine) didn't help much lol. Maybe starting where I left off will help too, since that seemed to be a really slow part of the movie.
