watched Under the Skin (2014) starring Scarlett Johansson. I thought it was really good, but also really low key. Very odd movie that doesn't move fast. Some really harsh scenes, and the oddness and slowness make this film a "not for everybody, even if you want to see Scarlett's boobs." Brought a lot of other movies to mind, including the Man Who Fell to Earth, Species, and Beyond the Black Rainbow. (EDIT: oh, yeah, and don't forget Taxi Driver)
also watched Dr. Giggles (1992) which is a comic slasher movie. Very underrated, I remember seeing it when I was young and was expecting a real slasher. Great gags, kind of plays on the Chucky sense of humor. the Dr. of course always has something clever to say when he kills somebody.

hadn't seen either of these in a long time:
Poltergeist II (1986) which is interesting, and the addition of Will Sampson as the Native american is the best new part.
Poltergeist III (1988) which is very interesting in focusing on reflective images and the kinds of special effects you can use and the fact that it really makes that aspect scary.
Both are a good scary movie to watch, but nowhere near as good of films as I remember. They both tend to be imitations of the much better first one, the product of meshing sensibilities of Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg.

I started watching a movie yesterday called "Monster Brawl". It's about mythical monsters/creatures from around the world fighting to the death in a wrestling ring starring Dave Foley, Peter Maillet, Kevin Nash, Herb Dean, and "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart and narrated by Lance Henriksen. I wasn't expecting an Oscar-worthy film, just some entertaining camp, but this movie was so absolutely painful to watch. I think I lasted about 15 minutes before tapping out it was that bad. Avoid at all costs!!!

heard that one was bad. It looks like it could be really pretty good, but I've heard nothing but bad about it.

It was a train wreck. The acting was putrid and the script was awful. Like I said, I wasn't expecting a cinematic triumph, but it physically hurt to watch it. It reminded me of Ed Wood's "Orgy of the Dead". Just stupid and pointless on so many levels.

Went and saw The Witch over the past weekend. I loved the way the movie was shot, I loved that it felt like you were really in 1630's North America. They did a great job with the atmosphere of the movie. Some things about it creeped me out, but for the most part the movie overall was more of a psychological horror film, than something that actually tries to reach out and scare you. There's a few scares to be had, but most of it just messes with your head, or attempts to. Not a bad movie, but not a particularly great one either. I would wait and watch it on DVD/Blu-Ray if you haven't yet seen it.

An interesting movie: Coherence
Part of the intrigue is not knowing what going on/being confused. It's a solid B. It was a B+, but the end sort of fizzled out (like they had run out of time/run out of money). Original concept... a very interesting premise.
It's free on Amazon Prime.

that would have been an awesome twist. either way that's a movie you have to go into expecting it to be slow and in the right mindset for, I think one of the worst things for a movie is having the wrong expectations.

Going to the fancy new local theatre tonight with XD movies, and recliners for seats to check out 10 Cloverfield Lane. Hoping it's good! John Goodman is a favorite actor of mine, so I'm stoked that he's in it. I'll let you guys know what I think!

I'm looking forward to seeing this one as well. Agree, John Goodman is a top notch actor and seems like a really good guy too. I enjoy just about anything he does.

So I've decided to diversify my Youtube Channel to be not just about gaming, but movies as well. So here's a couple I tossed together quickly. My idea is a line of videos telling viewers my opinion if it's worth it to spend your money at the theater to see a particular movie. I'm kind of learning video editing on the go, and I haven't yet purchased a good video editing software so my stuff is pretty basic through Windows Movie Maker. I'm also planning on purchasing a better microphone to help with sound quality.
The Witch
10 Cloverfield Lane

saw the newest Terminator movie. Really good, I think anybody who's enjoyed the movies in the past will get a good nostalgic kick out of this one, and anybody who isn't as familiar with the series are given an up to date introduction to the world of the Terminator.
Good sense of humor in this latest one.

watched Hook (1991) starring Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman, with Julia Roberts and Bob Hoskins. Been a long time since I've seen this one. All I remembered was that it was considered a flop due to poor reception. This movie is extremely underrated. It's clever and Robin Williams doesn't go over the top, it's one of the earlier performances of his that I can remember of him really doing a top notch acting job. Hoffman and Hoskins are amazing together as Captain Hook and Smee. Great movie.

The best part of this movie are Bob Hoskins' (Smee) and Dustin Hoffman's (Hook) performances. They (secretly) played their roles as if they were an old married couple.

that makes a lot of sense, thinking back that's just what it was. it really worked.

From what I've read, they brought that idea to Spielberg who balked at the idea, saying "This is supposed to be a kid's movie." They toned it down a bit, but still went ahead with their idea.
