| Wednesday, February 15, 2012 By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Ben Roethlisberger already has adjusted his game, and it has nothing to do with old or new coordinators, old or new offenses, things Art Rooney did or did not say. It has plenty to do with his 30th birthday March 2. "That's why I'm working out already," Roethlisberger said. He began training at the Steelers facility on the South Side last week, days after he returned from an extended Pro Bowl stay in Hawaii. He talked to coach Mike Tomlin about where he is in his career and about the future. "When I talked to Mike, I said I don't know how much longer I have to play, no one does; it could be two years, three years, it could be eight years. Who knows?" Roethlisberger said during an extensive interview Thursday. "I'm hoping that I'm just starting in my prime. I've already been working out with [Garrett Giemont], our strength coach, already. I've never worked out this early. It's not like high-intensity, out killing myself, but I'm working out, I want to come to camp lighter than I've ever come, in better shape, because as you get to a certain point, a certain age in this football thing, your body doesn't recover like it used to." | If a motivated Malkin can make the Pens contenders without Crosby, I'd hate to see what a motivated Ben does now that he has someone competent at running the offense.

| Good for Ben. Instead of allowing the media to bend his words to fit some necessary agenda in a newspaper, he's running to the gym. It sounds like he's understanding (especially with the piling up of injuries) and maturing. _________________ 60 MIN 53 MEN 1 NATION STEELERS NATION I am the MAN that created the MYTH that started the LEGEND Don't choose good when greatness is available! | |

Are you still on this? When I was the sports editor at my college paper, one of the coaches accused me of misquoting him. I had recorded the interview and played it back for him. His response: A lot of people, athletes included, like to claim that they were misquoted or that their words were taken out of context. The reality is that most times, we're not thinking about what we're saying. I don't know how many times my wife has said something, and I laugh and repeat what she said. Her response: "I didn't say that." My response: "Uh, yea you did." I don't think the media is bending Ben's words to fit an agenda. I think if anyone has an agenda, it's Ben. But yeah, hopefully he comes in in great shape and with a great attitude. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass.

But yeah, hopefully he comes in in great shape and with a great attitude. Yes, I'm STILL ON THIS!!! I'm not saying that players don't say idiotic things, but I also know that media types can and do misconstrue what people say, especially athletes, especially during the off-season when there has been noticeable change on the coaching staff. I know Ben is responsible for making some stupid comments, but I also know that the media has gone head hunting on minor comments, making a mountain out of a mole hill. I guess my biggest problem with players is that they don't know when to shut up. My biggest problem with media types is that they don't always keep things in context. _________________ 60 MIN 53 MEN 1 NATION STEELERS NATION I am the MAN that created the MYTH that started the LEGEND Don't choose good when greatness is available!

| The media didn't twist his words at all. Words look different in writing than they do when you hear them right out of someone's mouth. I heard an interview with Ben, and he sounded optimistic and excited. In writing, there's no indication of that. It's just writing. He could say:
"I'm going to go up to Rooney's office and talk with him" relaxed and with optimism in an interview, but when it's put on paper, it's bland.
People can, and have, interpret it as: I'M GOING TO GO UP TO ROONEY'S OFFICE AND TALK TO HIM!
The media won't let the readers know what his tone was in the interview, or even confirm there was recording from the interview 90% of the time. _________________ "Either you're playing dumb, or it's not an act". -Judge Judy

Round IS a shape, Wally. You of all people should know that. I hope Ben does get over his angry widow complex concerning Arians and comes in next season in better shape and ready to kick ass. The sky could be the limit if he buys in to Haley, gets in shape, and tweaks his game some. We could be unstoppable! _________________ -"I stand corrected...
