| Poll: Who's not returning to the playoffs? July, 3, 2012 By Jamison Hensley | ESPN.com
ESPN is currently running a two-week series on five teams that could make the playoffs that didn't last year and five teams that made the playoffs last year but won't this season.
Why the focus on five teams? Well, that's been the trend for the past 16 seasons. Dating back to 1996, at least five teams have qualified for the playoffs that missed the postseason before.
This impacts the AFC North significantly because three teams in the division -- the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals -- made the playoffs last season. So, which team is the unlikeliest to return to the postseason from the AFC North?

| In the AFCN, the obvious answer is the Ravens.
I think their OLine is going to be awful, worse then ours was the last several years. McKinnie is eating his way out of the NFL. Williams is 36 and coming off a broken ankle, Birk is fading, and Oher is NOT the shining star that his movie portrayed. Plus, losing Suggs and Jarret Johnson, their pass rush will fade. Their fans think Upshaw and Kruger will rescue them, but me thinks, not so much.
Plus, Ed Reed is a malcontent, as is Ray Rice... and Bert cannot compensate - like Ben has - for a bad OLine. He crumbles under pressure.
I think they're competitive, 'cause their strong at home... but I see a 9-7 fade for them.
Of course, with our revamped OLine and Willie Gay in Pittsburgh West, we'll take the division and the Bengals will lose in the 1st round of the playoffs... again. | |

| Lemon, I completely agree with your assessment of the Ratbirds. I think they're going to finish third in the North this year. Fortunately for them, they've got the Browns to cushion their fall. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass. | |

| It'll be a battle between them and the Bengals for 3rd. I think Ray Ray wills them to a win and a playoff berth. This will be their last for a few years though. _________________ Twitter: @SteelersYak

| Since the subject went straight to the Rats I think after Thuggs comes back back they rally to 10-6 to make a wildcard spot. ! and done. Not Going to the dance: 49ers- Their defense will be the only good thing this year.(this will surprise many who think nobody has it better) Cheats- Brady will start to whine when they loose 2 straight. Seahaggs- They shouldn't have been there last year and they go backwards. Saints- No brainer, *see Goodell is a douchebag! Bungals- 1 good year two bad years. They will rise up: Cryboys- 1 and done but they will get there. Cards- They have Gay Bucs- I like the Bucs. What can I say I lived there when they where the yucks. Jets- Tebow Tebow Rams- Jeff Fischer will whip them into shape. Of course I could be completely wrong on all my predictions!! | |

| Let's not underestimate the pure historical suckitude of the Bungals here. Dave said "1 good year two bad years"...... more like 1 good year 10 bad years. _________________ -"I stand corrected... | Poll results: Not returning to postseason July, 6, 2012 By Jamison Hensley | ESPN.com
Of the three AFC North teams that made the playoffs last season, the one that is the unlikeliest to return is the Cincinnati Bengals.
Well, that's according to this week's SportsNation poll. Of the 9,247 voters, 54 percent believe the Bengals are the team that has the best chance of missing out on the postseason in 2012.
The Steelers and Ravens tied for second with each receiving 23 percent. Here's some reader feedback:
Chris from Athens, Ohio, offers his perspective: "The Bengals are the most likely pick not to make the playoffs next year if you look at it on paper. The key thing though is injuries during the season. If Ben Roethlisberger gets hurt, or if the offensive line has injury problems again, the Steelers won't make the playoffs. If Joe Bert, or Ray Rice gets hurt, the Ravens won't make the playoffs. If the Bengals stay healthy, and the Ravens and Steelers have injury problems, they have enough talent to win the division, and there are other good teams in other divisions that could knock out an injury depleated Ravens or Steelers."
