Steelers notebook: Running game fails to make an impact

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The 2012 season is three games old and the Steelers are still in search of their first 100-yard rushing game by a running back. Actually, the Steelers are still searching for their first 50-yard game by a back.

The passing game soared in a 34-31 loss to the Raiders Sunday at O.co Coliseum, but the running game sputtered yet again.

Hopefully this all changes when Mendy comes back (we all hope) in week five.

The thing is it won't matter if we get the running game going,scoring is not our problem. If we can't win a game when we score 31 points then something is wrong.

Exactly. It's become clear that you don't NEED to run to setup the pass, because we had FORTY yards rushing and STILL passed for 300+ yards and four touchdowns.

But that certainly doesn't mean an effective running game wouldn't help.

if we could run the with the passing game maybe the offense could hold on to the ball the whole game and not let the defense on the field

I still say we need more weight on the front line. (Sorry to keep harping on it)

When we get DeCastro back that will be a big help.

DeCastro and Adams would help nicely in the run game.
