PITTSBURGH — The Steelers can talk about “the standard being the standard” all they want. But that Mike Tomlin credo has rung hollow this year … at least defensively.
Without outside linebacker James Harrison and strong safety Troy Polamalu, the Steelers have been dysfunctional on defense.
But today in somewhat of a desperate situation for the 1-2 Steelers, they get some encouraging news. Harrison and Polamalu return.
Their in-uniform presence alone will ratchet up the emotions several levels when the Steelers take on Michael Vick and the Eagles. And if they can regain their form as two of the elite defenders in the NFL, well, it could make for a long afternoon for the visitors.
“I’m looking forward to having our defense back together,” said defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau. “We’re a little better when they’re in there.”
