The Steelers likely will be without leading receiver Antonio Brown when they play the Kansas City Chiefs at Heinz Field on Monday night. Brown sprained his left ankle on a deep throw late in the first quarter Sunday against the New York Giants and did not return.
Emmanuel Sanders could be used on both punt returns and kickoff returns if Brown and running back Chris Rainey (rib cartilage) can’t play against the Chiefs (1-7). Rainey will be in “big time discomfort” this week, according to coach Mike Tomlin, but hasn’t been ruled out of the game.
Safety Troy Polamalu (calf) and right tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle) won’t play against the Chiefs in the Steelers’ only Monday night game this season, but there is a chance Polamalu could return against the Baltimore Ravens the following week. Polamalu and Gilbert could get some work in practice this week.
Running back Jonathan Dwyer is expected to be available after missing the Giants game with a quad injury. Dwyer ran for more than 100 yards in consecutive starts before Isaac Redman ran for 147 yards and the go-ahead touchdown as the Steelers (5-3) beat the Giants, 24-20, for their third consecutive victory.
