Eight years after leaving Pittsburgh and signing with the New York Giants, wide receiver Plaxico Burress is a Steeler once again. According to Ed Bouchette of the Post-Gazette, the Steelers signed the 35-year-old veteran today to help fill the void created by the injuries to Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery. Brown suffered a high ankle sprain two weeks ago against the Giants, and his return date is uncertain. Multiple sources say that Cotchery suffered a rib injury in the Steelers' loss to the Ravens, and his status is questionable. That leaves little depth behind Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders. David Gilreath, a first-year receiver who was promoted from the practice squad last week, is the only other receiver on the active roster. Burress was drafted by the Steelers with the eighth overall pick in 2000. In 2001, Burress and Hines Ward became the first Steelers' receiving duo to gain 1,000 yards each in the same season. Good lord I remember that and I was screaming "NO, YOU DUMMY! THIS ISN'T COLLEGE!" after he did it.  I will try to get behind Burress and begrudgingly support him, but I'm not a big fan and hope this is a short-term thing. I'm sure Ben is excited to get back even more now that he has his tall receiver he's been longing for since Plax left.
