Report: Joey Porter faces foreclosure

It's been a rough few months for former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter.

In December, Porter was jailed after being charged with writing bad checks in Las Vegas. According to reports, Porter was released after paying a $70,000 debt to the Hard Rock Casino.

Now comes a report from the South Florida Business Journal that Porter is facing foreclosure on his home in Southwest Ranches, an unincorporated area in Broward County, Fla., near Fort Lauderdale.

The Business Journal reported that 1st United Bank filed for foreclosure earlier this month. Porter reportedly purchased the 10,600-square-foot home, with 2.3 acres of property, for $4 million in 2007.

Porter, 35, retired from the NFL last summer after a 13-year NFL career that also included stops with the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection, three times while playing for the Steelers and once while with the Dolphins.

I'd like to say that I feel bad for Porter, and I do to a certain extent, but it's hard to feel too bad for these athletes who blow all their money.

I agree. Maybe he can get a job at NFL network and him and Sapp can go sneaker shopping.

I don't feel bad at all. These guys are warned by the league about these issues at their 3-day rookie symposium. It's like not heeding the advice of your parents when your younger...eventually you're going to fall off the cliff and go splat. You don't need a big ass house costing $4 million, and you certainly don't need to be thinking that your bad boy NFL persona is going to get you out of shite, especially after you leave the team where you made your living and then bomb in the other teams you play for.
