Ben Affleck Is the New Batman

Ben Affleck is Batman.

The actor will replace Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming untitled Batman-Superman feature for Warner Bros., the studio announced Thursday.

Affleck becomes the eighth actor to play the Caped Crusader, following Bale, George Clooney and Michael Keaton.

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” WB president Greg Silverman said in a statement.

Directed by “Man of Steel” filmmaker Zack Snyder, the Batman-Superman feature will open worldwide on July 17, 2015, with Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Diane Lane reprising their roles.

And then this happened: Two petitions started, one on change.org and another in the “We the People” section of the White House website.

The change.org petition is aimed at Warner Bros.; the White House petition asked the Obama administration to “denounce the selection of Ben Affleck” and recast the role of Batman.

According to CBS DC, the creator of the White House petition, a Westland, Mich., man believes “there are more serious matters that need to be addressed in our country but fans/citizens are outraged at the selection and we want to send a message to Warner Brothers, DC Comics, and Zack Snyder using an outlet that could garner the appropriate media attention to do so.”

The petition was quickly removed from the White House website, with a message that it violated the terms of service.

I'd rather watch a pickle race.

I thought Christian Bale did a phenomenal job as Batman (I know this is a different producer but still).

Christian Bale said at the end of Dark Knight Rises that he was done with the character. I have no problem with Affleck as the choice, I mean there could have been worse actors cast in to the role.

The bar has been set VERY high by Bale. I don't know if I will be watching Ben Affleck as Batman... he was Daredevil.

Daredevil was just poorly directed. I think Affleck could've done much better as Daredevil with a better director in charge. It was directed by Mark Steven Johnson the same guy who directed Elektra, and the Ghost Rider movies. I was never a huge Affleck fan, but when I saw The Town I realized Affleck really isn't all that bad.
