PITTSBURGH -- With a game ball tucked under his arm, a first birthday present for his young son, Ben Roethlisberger strode triumphantly out of the Steelers’ locker room early Sunday night.
For a quarterback who is supposedly unhappy, you couldn’t tell by the broad smile on his face.
There were no questions surrounding Roethlisberger’s future in Pittsburgh. No one could question his commitment or his teammate’s effort. How could there be?
Two weeks after their record-breaking loss in New England, the Steelers were well on their way to another disaster. With three starters out with injury, Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson nearly duplicated what Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski did to them in just one half.
This time, however, was different.
Before a home crowd, many of which had already headed for the exits to escape the rain and the onslaught of Detroit’s offense, the Steelers didn’t give up. The Steelers believed, they say, because they believed in Roethlisberger.
“Seven doing what Seven does,” is how Jerricho Cotchery put it.
Trailing 27-23 the Steelers needed a touchdown, not another field goal in the red zone. Roethlisberger delivered.
He masterfully orchestrated a 16-play drive that chewed up 8:03 of valuable clock in the fourth quarter, keeping Stafford and Johnson safely at bay on the sideline. It culminated in a perfectly thrown fade route into the right corner of the end zone to seldom used fullback Will Johnson.
“He needs to be miserable every week, we’ll take it,” joked Cotchery. “Maybe someone else can start another rumor so he can go and throw another four (touchdowns).

| there were some reports early Sunday morning that Ben was upset about his contract and the losing. Apparently, according to ESPN he wants the 20 million per year contract. My answer to that is simple - WIN ANOTHER SB!
If Ben wants money, he hasn't proven that he deserves the 20 million dollars. But is it his fault or the fact that our O-line has suffered multiple injuries, making it impossible for him to be effective in the passing game and almost eliminating our running game? If Ben gets the money, then what does that do for the rest of the players on the roster? If Ben is truly a team player he would hopefully understand that if he takes a majority of the money, then how do the Steelers pay for the nucleus of players to make this team a solid performer and SB contender? _________________ 60 MIN 53 MEN 1 NATION STEELERS NATION I am the MAN that created the MYTH that started the LEGEND Don't choose good when greatness is available! | |
