Receiver Antonio Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell are having Pro Bowl-caliber seasons and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is on pace to throw for more yards than he has in his 11-year career. The Steelers are fourth in the NFL in total offense and average 404 yards per game.
Perhaps Brown, Bell and Roethlisberger will maintain their torrid starts for the remainder of the season and the Steelers will remain one of the top five offenses in the league, but it’s worth noting they have had the good fortune of playing some of the worst defensive teams in the league in the early going.
For the third consecutive week and for the fourth time in the first six games, the Steelers are playing one of the three worst defenses in the league.

There's lots of good things happening on offense, but the problem is that there's still too much bad. If this offense puts up 42, it wouldn't surprise me. If it manages only 9, it also wouldn't surprise me. There's no consistency. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass.

| I definitely question the overall play-calling at times, no consistency is an understatement. My favorite was starting TB game with a fullback screen. The main problem I have is the screen pass is poorly disguised. A peewee football player can pick it up, it's awful. The OL lacks a player who can break out from the line, make blocks down field for the screen play. We need another Faneca. Haley's offense depends on a strong OL and a receiver who is able to rack up decent YAC, the OL is better than recent years but still needs work at the tackles. Patriots* seem to run a similar style to our offense. Only real difference is they only run 10% the amount of bubble screens we do. The big play to Heath at end of the game is open a lot during game, don't run it enough. I think Haley understands how to run an efficient offense well, I don't think he is very good at knowing how to attack an opposition's defense and destroy their weaknesses. I just try to remember that Haley's #1 priority is to protect and preserve Ben, no one wants to see him off of the roster. I may have a hard time when that day finally comes for him to retire. | |

Two of my biggest complaints against Arians were the bubble screen and his refusal to do what you said in the above post. It didn't matter if a team was good against the run, bad against the run, good against the pass, bad against the pass ... Arians wouldn't adjust his game plan to exploit the defense's weaknesses. When a team's top corner goes down, most teams immediately target his replacement. In the Super Bowl against Green Bay, Woodson went out, and we didn't do anything differently. Any other team would have immediately challenged the new corner. Not Arians, because it wasn't in the original game plan. I have a lot of the same complaints with Haley. The one thing I do like about Haley is that, unlike Arians, he seems willing to change things that aren't working, and he's willing to change the offense to suit the players he has. Arians had his offense, and he was going to run it no matter what. That's why even though I haven't been completely happy with Haley, I still have some optimism that things are going to start clicking. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. | How about just throw a bomb to Brown for a TD. I'd take it. I want to see Bryant play. Maybe we'll see some YAC with him. He's big enough.
