I'll let you in on a little secret. Before the Herd, there was a little group called Night Owls who lived in a faraway magical land called the Halfway House. The group's history spans numerous forums. I've heard a few people say that SX is turning into Fever. From my point of view, because of Buddha, Jon, and a few others, Fever was turned into SX. This isn't an invasion. It's a homecoming.

Thanks for the kind words, Wally (suck it, Dubs!!! . It's true, the Night Owls were a legendary group spanning 3 different Steelers boards (SU, SF, & SX). They were private groups on SF and SU where all of the goofy misfits congregated to have some off-beat fun. There wasn't really a private group at SX for it because the entire board became the group and we behaved as we wished openly. The Night Owls became SX so there was no need for the group. That was our vision of how we wanted a message board to be. Less restrictive and more fun. Not too uptight or boring. Wally was the one who made that possible by creating SX and giving us the rope to hang ourselves with.
SF became more like the Night Owls/SX too as Night Owl members like SteelCityMom and bayz101 took over the reins at SF and relaxed things more. Tony, Mach, Ric and the other mods/admins were also instrumental in allowing that vibe to thrive and SF grew back into a bustling online community again because of it. It in turn drew in other awesome posters and brought out the best in others with a great sense of humor and fun. I feel like The Herd is very much the bastard child of old Night Owls group and I mean that in the most flattering way possible.
There are too many people overall to give credit for this uprising of silly, fun loving type of atmosphere and I wouldn't want to leave anyone out, so thank you all (you know who you are) for being the awesome bunch of people that you are. None of this would be possible or as fun without you.
A special thanks again to Wally, Truck, and Dubs for allowing us (and especially me) an outlet for this ridiculousness to continue and a new home to practice it in. Cheers!

Sometimes it's hard to believe all of this started at SU with just a bored poster and a late-night thread that shouldn't have gotten more than two or three replies. Just thinking about it makes me sooooooooo bored.
I like to think that every time one of us mentions being bored, somewhere out there in the real world, Shea's butt starts to itch. Without Shea and her boredom, there would be no Wally (the nickname she gave me ... the first in a long line of our nicknames), no Night Owls, possibly no Herd, and definitely no SX. Miss you, Shea, wherever you are.

He means SU not SF.
I'm not sure what got deleted. I haven't been back to SU since they banned (and then unbanned) me. Wouldn't surprise me if it was the Braintrust. I heard through the grapevine that the Halfway House (Night Owls hangout) was still there, but more or less withered and died once Wally and I left. Not sure if it's still active or not.
And Wally, you're right. Shea kind of was the one who inadvertently started it all. We just pumped it full of steroids and put it on the playing field.
I miss her, Mom, MattsMe, George, and DDF.

I think what Buddha is trying to say is:

I jumped on the moving train but it's been a fun ride. I very much enjoyed Buddha's post as it shows just how much an online community can grow and mean to the people involved in it.
We welcome new members, new old members, and everyone in between. We hope that from day 1 no one feels like an outsider here.

As I Ravens fan, I can confirm this. I've always appreciated the warm reception I've received at all three of the Steelers boards that I've been a part of. What's really neat about this rivalry is that every Ravens fan I've known who's gone to a game at Pittsburgh has come back talking about what a great experience it all is. I wish Baltimore fans could be as welcoming to those rooting for our rivals.

Yeah, you guys are pretty much stuck with me now.

The Braintrust was deleted after almost all the active members of the group were banned. If I'm not mistaken, me and Mach were the only two active members of the group who engaged in the war and survived that round of bannings. Of course, my ticket was punched a short time later for acts unrelated to the Braintrust war. Good times, good times.
The Halfway House and Night Owls still exist there, although both get used about as much as Buddha's exercise equipment.
