That's too bad about Public Enemies but Dead Man is really great although if you fall asleep during Public Enemies...
I didn't fall asleep because it bored me, I just have that tendency after working all day, eating dinner, and sitting stationary right before bedtime. I get tired and just nod off. I know what you mean. There's this certain hour in the evening I try not to watch films during because my eyelids begin to get heavy and well, yeah. - vasteeler wrote:
- top 10 list is tough but here goes in no order
1 pulp fiction 2 there will be blood 3 goodfellas 4 big fish 5 ray 6 taxi driver 7 a requiem for a dream 8 deer hunter 9 true grit 10 fear and loathing in las vegas Solid list. Which True Grit? I just rewatched There Will Be Blood a couple days ago, such a great film. I never noticed the motif of Plainview being a heavy sleeper which kind of smacked me in the face on seeing it multiple times. There are so many things PT Anderson does well in the film, although, my favorite PTA film is probably Boogie Nights or Punch-Drunk Love (extremely underrated, I think). I thought Deer Hunter was just going to be some Oscar bait film, but was surprised by how good of a film it actually was. _________________ (Big thanks to Wally for hooking me up with a great sig.) Brazil There Will be Blood Fargo Goodfellas Evil Dead trilogy Godfather Parts 1 & 2 Suspiria Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz Dr. Strangelove Empire Strikes Back Awesome list, man. I really need to rewatch Brazil, such a great film (Jonathan Pryce is the man). I just rewatched Fargo as well. Top notch black comedy and even though I had seen a couple times before the Coen brothers do some very nice subtle things with the shot selections which parallel and juxtapose the characters nicely with the whole money and hostage situation to the whole segment at the end with Marge and her husband about the three cent stamp "not being a lot of money" yet their both content with it contrasting to the really violent unhappy endings for everyone involved with the whole hostage ordeal. The only film I don't like on the list Suspiria... the film is okay, but Argento leaves me pretty "meh" feeling. - mcg24 wrote:

1. Se7en 2. The Pianist 3. Alien 4. There Will Be Blood 5. Unforgiven 6. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy 7. Dark City 8. Full Metal Jacket 9. The Godfather 10. Memento Another solid list! Polanski is such a great director, I just about love every film he's made and I really like his short films he made while at Łódź. I'll be honest, I'm surprised to see The Pianist on here such a great film and usually not a first choice out of his films although it should be. Personally for me it's a three way tie between Cul-de-sac, The Pianist and Tess. Have you seen Nolan's Following? I almost prefer that over Memento. I also like Dark City... such a good film. Yeah... I'm a little bit of cinephile. I went to film school before deciding that I rather do theatre, but I'm obsessed with both. As Ingmar Bergman once said, "The theatre is my wife and the cinema is my mistress." _________________ (Big thanks to Wally for hooking me up with a great sig.) Argento's writing does leave a lot to be desired, but some of the stuff he does with a camera is pretty amazing. He's also one of the few directors who uses pretty graphic violence without cheapening the effect (I'm looking at you, Eli Roth) I once let a friend of mine borrow Argento's Opera and she ended up locking herself in her room because she was frightened and the lock broke, so she was stuck in there for the rest of the day until her roommate got home. _________________ Wallace108: Jon, how the hell do you expect any of us to ever follow your posts? Yeah, I can agree about Argento not cheapening it. I have yet to see Opera but that is funny Not too many horror films have that effect. _________________ (Big thanks to Wally for hooking me up with a great sig.) Yeah... I'm a little bit of cinephile. I went to film school before deciding that I rather do theatre, but I'm obsessed with both. As Ingmar Bergman once said, "The theatre is my wife and the cinema is my mistress." I actually have seen Following, I enjoyed it very much. I found it pretty difficult to follow (ironic), due to the main character having different hair styles throughout the film, and it follows a non-linear time frame. All of that compounded onto the black and white color palette made it difficult for me, but I made it through. The Pianist is just so great. Polanski actually had to live through that time period, so I feel like that even adds more motivation to make a beautiful film...and he did. I'm glad to actually have a real movie buff in here, rather than someone like me who just wants to/pretends to be one! _________________ "Nobody knows why you go to a picnic to be uncomfortable when it is so easy and pleasant to eat at home."

I'm glad to actually have a real movie buff in here, rather than someone like me who just wants to/pretends to be one! I'm sure you're a film buff! I love B&W so it wasn't a problem for me but the plot is really hard to grasp the first time around, but as far as non-linear films go, I love it. Although the hardest non-linear film to watch and EVER get the hang of, and I never have, is Primer (2004). It's a really interesting realistic take on time travel but it's really dense for people (like myself, with an absolute hate of science and math) who aren't physicists or mathematicians. Regardless I think its worth a watch (and rewatch ). I read an interview where Polanski was living with this other family on (not that families) somebody's farm in Poland during the invasion/war and he was collecting berries in the brush by the road and some Nazis saw him and they started playing games with him by shooting around him, missing him on purpose, I guess "choosing" to "let" him survive. I think he was like 6, pretty horrific stuff, and you can really tell in the film that it was crafted by someone who lived through it. _________________ (Big thanks to Wally for hooking me up with a great sig.)
