The PAT has been changed. Per the proposal by the competition committee.

The Competition Committee proposal

After scoring a touchdown, the offensive team would choose whether to go for one, a PAT kick, with the ball at the 15-yard line, or go for two from the 2-yard line. The PAT kick would essentially be a 32- or 33-yard attempt.

If the kick is blocked or the two-point try is fumbled or intercepted, the defensive team could run the ball back to the opposite end zone for two points.

The change would be for the 2015 season only, meaning if the owners wanted to continue it in 2016, they would have to vote it into the game again. This would be a one-year trial, with fixes possible after seeing potential problems this fall.

Thoughts?

Wouldn't mind the change.
Wouldn't mind it staying the way it is either.

of all the things happening in the NFL, this is one of the least of their problems.

I like the rule change.

I would also like kickoffs to be moved back. Such an exciting part of the game (used to be). Why not just have them all start on the 20 and not even waste the time of setting up the kickoff?

Yeah the change in the kickoff rule bothers me more than this which I have to admit I don't love but understand the logic behind it. The kickoff OTOH, there was no reason to change that rule. You're right Yak. Kickoffs were such an exciting part of the game and having a good return guy could really help make the difference in a tight game. Just another Goodell era fuck up.

maybe QBs will now be used as holders now a lot more room on the field to throw a pass on a fake extra point attempt. PAT rule change. 3135543967

Former Steelers kicker Reed doesn't like new NFL PAT rule

First, the NFL essentially eliminated kickoffs by placing the ball at the 35-yard line to promote more touchbacks, and now they have moved extra points back to a place on the field where the two-point conversion becomes more of a viable option.

In the grand scheme of the game, it's not really a big deal … unless you are a kicker, or a former kicker.

Jeff Reed, who kicked eight years for the Steelers, is the team's second-leading all-time scorer. He believes there is something more to the NFL's decision Tuesday to move the line of scrimmage for extra points back 13 yards to the 15-yard-line.

“I can say this right now because I am not playing anymore, but I think (commissioner) Roger Goodell is trying to get rid of kickers,” Reed said.

Goodell has hinted in the past that extra points eventually might be eliminated from the game because of the high success rate (99 percent last year). For now, the league has decided to make the play more difficult while adding a provision that permits a defensive two-point conversion off a blocked PAT or turnover on a two-point try.

The added defensive two-point possibility is only the second scoring change in the history of the NFL. The league added the two-point conversion in 1994
