Manziel harassed by fan, throws water bottle

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was harassed by a fan at the AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament.

Manziel's agent, Erik Burkhardt, told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com on Sunday that Manziel responded to the fan's harassment on Saturday by alerting security officials at the PGA event in Irving, Texas.

The 22-year-old Manziel, a Texas native, was photographed talking to police outside the Four Seasons hotel on Saturday, and the photos began circulating Sunday morning on social media.

Burkhardt told Northeast Ohio Media Group that he and Manziel were attending church in Dallas on Sunday morning.

Irving police spokesman James McLellan said an 18-year-old male fan began harassing Manziel near the Four Seasons' pool, which is part of the golf course property. Manziel eventually threw a water bottle at the fan, escalating the confrontation, but one of Manziel's friends stepped in to intervene on his behalf and hotel security also got involved, McLellan said.

One week after being named the team's starter, Manziel has been demoted to the third-string quarterback for Monday night's game...

"It's a little easier to handle when it's just a one-time occurrence, but when behavior repeats, not just him but with anybody, it's certainly a cause for concern," Pettine said.

Amazing he would throw it all away after likely being the starter for the rest of the season following his performance against the Steelers. But that is why I keep fearing the next positive drug test for Bryant to be announced - old habits/addictions are tough to break.

Not really a defense of Manziel but I'm glad the camera phone wasn't around during my 20s

This really forces the Browns into an uncomfortable situation. The season is effectively over for them. By benching Manziel, you still are not going to know what you have as a QB. This is going to force the Browns into either of the following situations:

• Manziel is going to be cut at season's end, regardless of potential or growth.
  
• If he isn't, you still don't know what you have as a QB and this sets the franchise back next season and not knowing if you need to draft another QB.
  

Austin Davis is #2 on the depth chart, for what it's worth.

I for one am tired of his antics. They made him the starter, and he should have learned from his prior mistakes but instead he's out partying once again during the bye week right after he told his fans and the team that he wouldn't again embarrass the organization. The Browns should just cut him right now and be done with it. If you ask me he's been given too many chances.

That being said he's still young, and undoubtedly some other team would give him a chance and I honestly do hope that he grows up and realizes the opportunity he's been given.

I wonder if he would have been better off on another team, especially one that didn't thrust him into the starting position right away.
