| I think Jones gets the start, but Ben dresses for the game as the emergency backup. | |

1st part yes, 2nd part no way. I don't think Ben will be the backup if they don't start him. I think they'll roll with Murphy to be honest. _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt

| Bracing for pain
Roethlisberger, despite several other knee injuries, never has worn a knee brace, but he will try out as many as six this week as he attempts to convince the coaching staff he can play Sunday at Kansas City.
“I’ve never [used a brace] before,” Roethlisberger said. “I have no idea what it’s like to run, move, if it will bump my other leg. I’m not really sure yet.”

I should hold him out simply because he's been injured twice before in Chiefs games? That was the premise of the original statement. Is that what you're saying?? Hold him out because it's the Chiefs?!

| Let his knee get another week of rest. Jones should be able to get us past KC. | |

| I think if the knee is still bothering him or making him more vulnerable to further injury, then he should set. It sure would be nice for him to have only missed three weeks and come back to a 4-2 team and to an inferior opponent and just steam roll them. I think we can win with Jones, based on what i saw in pre season and last game, I think he is capable but every game is going to be important this year. This team is good enough to make a superbowl run once we are all healthy, so the long term health of Ben is most important obviously. But its an AFC opponent and a game we "should" win, but these are the types of games we usually find a way to lose. I say if Ben's ready, lets get this explosive offense show on the road and run the table for a number #1 or 2 seed in the playoffs. Think about it we would be 5-2(if we win) and facing Bengles team coming off from a bye. We need to win this game against the chiefs and then next week against the bengles and we will be established as a contender in the AFC north. Cinci-6-1 pitt 6-2 looks pretty fucking good to me. _________________ | |

Ben will start against KC... Even if Ben is healthy enough to go, I wouldn't start him. I'd want to know if what Jones did last week was a fluke or if he's the real deal and the only way to find out is to give him a week to get prepped and start him against KC. Most backups are just sent in to a game to not fuck things up, but Jones ran the playbook like Ben. Most of his passes were spot on and that pass he threw to Bryant at the back of the end zone looked just like something Ben would throw. If he's for real, then we have have a guy who can do a lot more than just manage a game and he'd be a tremendous asset going forward but we'll never know if he doesn't play. If Ben is ready to play, I'd get him prepped but I'd let Jones start and see what happens. If he picks up where he left off last week, then let him play the whole game and let Ben's knee heal even more. If he struggles, then send Ben in. I don't see a down side to starting Jones. _________________

Maybe Vegas should let us bet on who starts since there still is no line on the game pending a decision on who starts http://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/odds/las-vegas/ If Tomlin really wants to flip the bird to gamblers he should say a decision on a starter will be made on game day

| Nope, this isn't the preseason. Thats what the preseason is for. Eveery game is important when we have the 6-0 bengles in our division, we want that tie breaker. If Ben's healthy it is senseless to start Landry Jones over Ben. Its absurd. I understand to see what hes made of but he clearly played better in preseason this year and yes he reminds me of big ben, hes about the same size and have very similar techniques. _________________ | |

| I remember watching Landry some in college. He dominated in college, he has what it takes. That doesnt mean you start him over Ben. _________________ | |

| After Ben sprained his ankle in a November Thursday night game in 2011 Tomlin (presumably remembering how Ben won a game in Baltimore the previous year on a bad leg and with a broken nose) started Ben in San Francisco the next game even though Ben was in a walking boot the week before the game
Ben threw 3 picks, the Steelers lost, Ben had to sit the next game because he aggravated the ankle injury, and Ben was still hobbled for the loss in the Tebow wild card game several weeks later
Just because Ben can play does not mean he should play - this game is important but the season is not crushed if the Steelers lose
Hopefully Ben sits to heal up for the 9 regular season games to follow

Ben is not healthy. He still needs a knee brace. And no, him and Landry Jones are NOT "about the same size". That's like saying Jones, Russell Wilson, and Drew Brees are about the same size. Ben and cam Newton are about the same size, and even then cam is slightly bigger.

Unless I'm mistaken, Ben will wear the knee brace for the rest of the year as a precaution. Should we sit him till next year? I'm not saying he should play. But if he's medically cleared, I want him out there.

| "Feeling good" means the knee did not swell up sets the bar pretty low
I am getting a vibe Tomlin will start Ben unless this is just playing mind games to force the Chiefs to practice for Ben (even though it will not be Ben moving around to buy time to throw Ben)

True, but not everyone is a good "practicer". Some people - especially when they know they're not going to get to play no matter how good they look in practice or the pre-season, just don't bring their "A" game. But when it counts, they deliver. Maybe Jones is one of those people. Maybe the only way to truly assess a guy like him is to look at what he can do when it counts. It could very well be that last week was more adrenaline than anything else, but I'd sure like to know for sure. And if it turns out that Jones IS for real, that would make me feel a lot better in the post season. Besides, I think he's earned a shot at a starting gig. _________________

| The thing that impressed me most about Jones last week was the amount of confidence he showed, even after making a few bad passes. That and he displayed a leadership quality that was absent when Vick was in the game. Maybe the kid finally turned the corner, being able to get your team to rally behind you is a big intangible that's overlooked. | |
