I am getting a vibe Tomlin will start Ben unless this is just playing mind games to force the Chiefs to practice for Ben (even though it will not be Ben moving around to buy time to throw Ben)

How else is he going to measure it? He was able to move around and it didn't swell.

On the latter, that's the smart way to play it by Tomlin.

Yeah Vick definitely had the deer in the headlights look still after 3 games. Jones never did.

Exactly.

I know this seems silly but every now and then I get a really positive vibe from someone even though I know absolutely nothing about them and I got that from Jones the moment he ran onto the field. Then, after just a couple of plays, I just thought, "No worries - everything will be fine".

I get that feeling once in a Blue Moon and this was one of those times.

Since I assume he did not have significant pain before the injury saying he did not have significant pain every time he took a step.

And saying he thought he could shift his weight quickly, which was an issue last week

No swelling of the knee is certainly not the only metric for "feeling good"

If he starts Sunday lets see how he handles the first time someone blows by the new LT then we can see how "good" he is feeling

Unless I'm mistaken, Ben will wear the knee brace for the rest of the year as a precaution. Should we sit him till next year?

I'm not saying he should play. But if he's medically cleared, I want him out there.
unless I am mistaken, most bands don't have a clue about the difference between non-contact practice and game speed. unless i am a steak n karma must b and co have a clue about the difference between 9 contact practice in games speed period.

And I know I am not mistaken when I say most fans don't know the difference between being medically cleared, and capable of being 80% effective while playing. I am sure big Ben is medically cleared to drive a car. Odds say he's more likely to be hit in the knee by a defensive lineman then get into a car crash.

Medical clearance or not... No doctor would clear him to go out there without a knee brace, and he is still experiencing pain. That is all I need to know. Thanks for the input though.

I like it. I think the guy has been in the offense for this being his 3rd year and when you have the earpiece in and clipboard in hand, you hear the plays and take the reads. So Jones probably went in thinking "I know this play will work and where to throw it".

Fear is what happens when you don't know what you are doing and Jones likely knew what he was doing, he just didn't know what it was going to be in a NFL reg season game. I hope you have that same hunch this sunday.

Its actually simple.

If healthly Ben will play, if not he wont.
You can't be throwing away games to inferior teams (I know its a common trend with this team) cause all games count now.
And like a few people have said we're 2 games back of the Bengals. we need this win and next head to head. Although I still think the Bengals blow 1 or 2 as the season continues.

Sure you can.  Especially when the fears are attached to reality.  It's called being prudent.

I should hold him out simply because he's been injured twice before in Chiefs games? That was the premise of the original statement. Is that what you're saying?? Hold him out because it's the Chiefs?!

No....not for that reason alone.  That would be a ridiculous reason to rest him another week.
But coupled with Ben coming off an injury that was close to sidelining him for much longer, if not the entire season, and playing a weakened Chiefs team....I'd stick with Landry for this game and aim for an even healthier Ben against the Bengals.

That's not living in your fears, it's being prudent/wise IMO.

1st part yes, 2nd part no way. I don't think Ben will be the backup if they don't start him. I think they'll roll with Murphy to be honest.

I thought they cut Murphy?

But I agree.

If he is still in pain, and unable to make sharp cuts then he shouldnt play....
Even if he does start im going to be shitting my pants on every drop back.
If i new we were going to get the same landry we got last week, and that wouldnt surprise me. He knows he playbook and he ran it great last week.  We need to win this game so I'm kind of in "the suite Ben up but dont play him unless Jones isnt getting the job done" club

For what it's worth, I feel good about Jones starting this game.

I think he's been waiting long enough to show what he can do, but I DON'T think he's any kind of showboat or ego-case.

I think he just a guy who's worked hard at learning and wants a chance to prove his worth.
I also think he's having fun and that's worth a lot all by itself.

"The Steelers have not yet closed the door on the possibility of Ben Roethlisberger’s return for Sunday’s game at Kansas City. After a three-game absence since straining his MCL in his left knee Sep.27, the quarterback has been listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report following limited participation in practice for a third consecutive game.

Backup quarterback Michael Vick was ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury in Sunday’s victory against Arizona, and not practicing all week. That puts third-string quarterback Landry Jones as the presumptive starter as it stands now, making his first NFL start.

Jones entered the previous game in the third quarter, going 8 for 12 for 168 yards and two touchdowns."

I hope he gets in for a few snaps! Let's go Landry!!!

Yeah it's gonna be Jones. We'll see Ben next week.

Tomlin is making the smart move - but I agree with this statement

Roethlisberger would very likely play if this was a playoff game, and he remains very much on track to face the Bengals next week in what could be a crucial AFC North game.
