It makes more sense to keep him then cut him. they obviously saw something we didn't see to pay him the contract so lets hope we can get him on the field and he can be productive in 2016. he has the tools for sure.

Going back to the PG article:
Quote :
Longtime reporter Ed Bouchette believes Allen's five-year, $26 million deal will go down as "one of the worst big-money contracts in Steelers history." Cutting Allen will create $4.4 million in cap space if he's designated as a post-June 1 release. Going on 28, Allen is recovering from a knee injury that limited him to one appearance in 2015. Allen was arguably the league's worst corner in 2014

$4.4 million savings in cap space is huge, especially when we have a few pieces that need signing. Maybe, just maybe, we will be a bit more active in FA and get ourselves a corner.

What we saw from Allen was a player that hit a peak in a contract year. There was nothing more to build on and go to the next level. Whether it was an injury that changed his play-style, psychological issues, or just plain flamed out, he never showed "the next step". I would argue he didn't even show what he was doing before the injury.

Basically, he is good as gone.

It would be a pleasant surprise if he turned into the guy we thought we signed. This secondary is going to be a mess until  Blake gets a permanent spot on the bench. The only place for Blake on the field is ST. I can't see us leaving Allen on the bench for another entire season. I think something will be done with him this year, either he sees the field again or he is given a fruit basket for a severance package. Leaving him in limbo is very unproductive unless he is just a cautionary tail to the young guys. How to ride pine and make millions doing it? Either remove him or use him, he's breathing other players oxygen as it stands. Its time to shut up about Cortez Allen.

I still think putting Allen on IR for a knee injury was BS, he must have done something personal to get buried in the dog house, he was DEFINATLY better than Blake.

Also, someone on another board suggested moving him to FS and Mitchell to SS.  Pretty damn good idea, he has the physical tools to play safety and wouldn't need to play man.

He was definitely better than Blake? I think not. As poorly as Blake played at points throughout the season I think he's been infinitely better than Cortez Allen has ever been. Blake has at least made some splash plays for this team. Allen hasn't done a damn thing. Not to mention the fact that Allen is getting paid to do so much more.

Wait, are you guys suggesting Blake and Allen are two different players? Thought he just switched jerseys to confuse the opposition??? Huh. Is there still any hope for Cortez Allen? - Page 2 3135543967

Haha nope, I think Blake is better than Allen, and that's not saying a whole lot. Is there still any hope for Cortez Allen? - Page 2 1797695198

Agreed Blake is better than Allen. Most importantly, his attitude is better. Blake was harshly criticized much of the year, but not only did he come up with some big plays to help his team, you never saw him lose his cool, argue with teammates, or place blame for his poor play when the spotlight was on him. That's probably why Tomlin likes him, because compare that attitude with someone like Cortez Allen, who shows a lack of motivation and professionalism.

Some of these guys get the $$$ and think they've reached the pinnacle of their career where they don't have to work for it anymore. They've earned their money through excellence and performance, and now their past performance should speak to their future effort automatically. That's not how it works, it doesn't matter where you are in your career, Effort + Attitude = Performance.
