| Report: Senquez Golson To Undergo MRI BY ALEX KOZORA MAY 26, 2016
Don’t want to ring all the alarm bells here but it appears that Senquez Golson went for an MRI after today’s practice.
The news was initially reported by Dale Lolley over at the Observer Reporter, leading off his notes from today’s practice. According to him, Golson didn’t participate in today’s practice and left the UPMC Sports Complex to get looked at.
Lolley does caution that this could be precautionary and that Golson told him he felt “good” yesterday. Of course, we had no idea of the severity of Golson’s injury last year either so we’ve seen the team be close to the vest before, especially on anything injury-related.
The team’s second round pick is looking to make his first footprint in the NFL after missing last year with a torn labrum in his shoulder. The injury came during OTAs and he was put on injured reserve during training camp.
Early indications had Golson playing on the outside to kick off OTAs though as Matthew Marczi pointed out, Golson wasn’t too worried about where he was playing. Now, let’s just hope the results of this test aren’t going to again hinder his ability to play, period.

| Hopefully it's not a big deal. If he's not worried, I'll hold off on worrying. | |

| Maybe we can trade for Shaq Richardson since everyone hates Boykin so much. | |

| I think it's probably just a precautionary thing. Make sure he's okay after coming back from a season ender last season. _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt | |

| Ed B of the P-G discusses the MRI in his May 31 chat
Have you heard any details about Golsons injury other than its a soft tissue injury?
Ed Bouchette: Just that it's not a shoulder. I believe it's somewhere in his leg. He said he will miss only a few days. He had the MRI last week after missing practice Thursday.
Ed Bouchette's Steelers chat transcript: 5.31.16 http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2016/05/31/Ed-Bouchette-s-Steelers-chat-5-31-16/stories/201605310173
Sounds encouraging although one wonders if Golson is going to join Shazier as being chronically banged up

| With shoulder injury behind him, Senquez Golson eyes a starting cornerback jobJune 1, 2016 By Ray Fittipaldo / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Senquez Golson looks at rookie cornerback Artie Burns and is a little envious. Not so much because of that signing bonus the Steelers’ first-round draft choice will be getting soon, but because Burns was blessed with some things Golson does not have — namely, height and length. “I just love how long he is,” Golson said. “I wish I was as long as he is.” At 5 feet 9, Golson is a good 3 inches shorter than Burns, but the Steelers have high hopes for him after he missed his rookie season with a shoulder injury. They let veteran corners Antwon Blake and Brandon Boykin leave in free agency to make room for Golson, who is expected to challenge for a starting job next season, most likely as the slot corner. Golson is first in line for that position with veterans William Gay and Ross Cockrell holding down the outside positions for the moment while Burns learns the system. But any speculation about where, or even how much, Golson plays in his first NFL season is the furthest thing from his mind after he was forced to miss so much time in 2015. Golson, who played football and baseball at Mississippi, had a long history with shoulder problems in college. “I kind of always had shoulder issues a little bit,” he said. As a senior, the shoulder became more problematic and persisted a year ago at organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp with the Steelers. The decision was made before training camp that season-ending surgery was the only option. “It was different for me,” Golson said of being idle. “I never really sat out before. I never really had an offseason when I was playing both sports. It was a lot different, but it was helpful.” Even though Golson could not physically take part in training camp, the Steelers purposely delayed surgery until late August so he could experience camp in Latrobe and soak in as much knowledge as he could. “I think we can sit around and speculate about what he’s gained, but I don’t think that will truly become evident until we start playing, and we see maybe the differences between him and the first-exposure guys,” coach Mike Tomlin said. “He should stick out in that setting, just from the time spent, the [knowledge] of the drills and how we go about doing business, the flow of the day, the input of information, things of that nature. He’s going to have an opportunity to display what has been learned once he gets going.” Golson, who missed the past two spring practices with a soft tissue injury unrelated to his surgically repaired shoulder, admitted to being a bit rusty on the first day of OTAs last week, but he enjoyed getting back into the swing of things with his teammates. “It’s been a while,” Golson said. “I was just getting my feet wet last year. It’s definitely easier than last year with me knowing the playbook already. “I don’t feel like a rookie. As far as practices goes, I have to make it to Latrobe and then get the pads on and see how that goes. I have the playbook down. At this point, it’s just learning the communication from the other players, learning how they talk.” Gay is the lone holdover starting cornerback after signing a three-year contract in March. Blake, who started 16 games in 2015, signed as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans. Boykin, who displaced Cockrell as nickel back late in the season, was not re-signed and remains a free agent. Mike Mitchell returns at free safety, but Robert Golden and rookie second-round pick Sean Davis will compete to replace Will Allen, another veteran defensive back who was not re-signed. Mitchell likely won’t practice until training camp because of offseason shoulder surgery. That’s a lot of new faces and moving pieces the Steelers must have in place by September. The Steelers are counting on Golson to be a vital part of the new-look secondary. At Mississippi, he was a unanimous first-team All-American and first-team All-Southeastern Conference. He tied the school record with 10 interceptions as a senior. It’s not a secret the Steelers have not had ballhawking corners in recent years. Mitchell led the team with three interceptions and Gay, Cockrell and Blake had two apiece in 2015. And, while Golson might wish he had some of Burns’ height and wingspan, he has never let his size be a detriment and doesn’t plan on that being the case as he transitions to the NFL. “I kind of figured out ways to play against the bigger receivers at 5-9 when I was playing against them at Ole Miss,” he said. “It doesn’t make a difference to me.” http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2016/06/01/With-shoulder-injury-behind-him-Senquez-Golson-eyes-a-starting-cornerback-job/stories/201606010032 | |

| I really hope Golson can be healthy all season and show that he is a dependable slot corner. Otherwise, we may see Doran Grant pressed into that role, but I haven't heard any buzz on him this OTA.
Maybe just not the media darling, but Grant is a kid that ran a 4.44, has good technique and can play zone or man and will tackle. I still think Golson can be special as a CB.

If he can do all that, why was he displaced by Cockrell...then Cut?

If he can do all that, why was he displaced by Cockrell...then Cut? I believe the thought is that Grant at 200 lbs is better suited to convert to safety, or move into the slot. Cockrell is used on the outside. Likely a numbers decision. Why was Grant activated from the practice squad to the 53 man roster mid season? The reports are that other teams were interested in him and going to sign him off the PS like Josh Mauro was. Some fans want to point out he was cut....but they don't want to mention he was promoted to the 53 so he wasn't lost to another team.

| Sounds like Golson just had a soft tissue injury and has already been back at OTAs which is a good sign. I just wish the injury aura lingering around him would go away. I feel like just making it through the offseason is a pretty stressful affair. _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt | |

| Golson enlists help of trainer to improve durability
By Mark Kaboly
Nobody knows much about Senquez Golson. How can they?
Steelers defensive coordinator Keith Butler admitted as much last week. William Gay echoed the same thing Wednesday during the second day of a three-day mandatory minicamp at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
It has been 14 months since the Steelers used a second-round pick on the ball-hawking cornerback from Mississippi, and all they have to show for it is a couple of spring practices, a torn labrum and a mysterious lower-body injury that has kept Golson from participating fully the past three weeks.
In a season where they are counting on Golson to ease the issues of a rebuilding secondary, he is taking a route many Steelers before him have taken: a four-week grind session with renowned Orlando-based trainer Tom Shaw.
In hopes of getting his injury bug fixed, Golson accepted Gay's invitation to work out with Shaw at Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.

| Pittsburgh Steelers' Senquez Golson says he'll be back in November, at the latestBy Jacob Klinger on August 23, 2016 PITTSBURGH -- Senquez Golson could be back on the field for the Pittsburgh Steelers as early as mid-October, but no later than the end of November, he said. The 2015 second-round pick out of Ole Miss suffered a Lisfranc injury on the fourth day of the Steelers' training camp practices, Aug. 1. Golson had been playing slot corner with the first-team defense and has since been replaced by Sean Davis in the position. It was initially reported that Golson would be out three to four months, but the second-year corner said he may return seven weeks out from surgery. He said he's certain he'll play this season. "For sure by the end of November I'll be full-speed back," Golson said. Hell be checking in with a doctor every five weeks, he said. Other players around the league wearing a similarly older shoe model have suffered the same injury, Golson said, though he noted he's not using it as an excuse. He's still not sure exactly how the injury happened, he said, only that his foot buckled beneath him away from a play in practice. to read rest of article: http://www.pennlive.com/steelers/index.ssf/2016/08/pittsburgh_steelers_senquez_golson_says.html | |
