On paper the Steelers have the potential to field one of the better offensive lines in the NFL. The arrival of Mike Munchak has begun to shape this group — acquired with high draft picks and extended with huge sums of cash — into a formidable unit, but injuries have had a habit of preventing the line from taking the next step to elite status.
Center Maurkice Pouncey missed practically all of 2013 and 2015 with season-ending injuries. Right guard David DeCastro missed all but three starts of his rookie year in 2012 with a knee injury. The Steelers lost left tackle Kelvin Beachum to a torn ACL last season. Considering an injury-riddled early portion of right tackle Marcus Gilbert’s career — he missed 13 games in his first three seasons — left guard Ramon Foster might be the only starter who has managed to remain consistently available.
