| Steelers will sit a bunch of starters Friday
The Steelers won’t play a bunch of starters and other notable players in Friday night’s preseason opener vs. the Lions.
Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Wednesday that the list of players who will sit includes quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, running backs Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams, wide receivers Antonio Brown and Markus Wheaton, center Maurkice Pouncey and first-round rookie cornerback Artie Burns.

The Steelers have never won a Super Bowl in the preseason. I expect the same failure this year. Fire Tomlin Fire Haley Fire Rooney _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass.

| I won't mind if they sit out all the starters during the preseason. These guys don't need more reps, they know the game. _________________ Known as BLACK_AND_YELLOW from SF

| Good. I want to see the rookies and the development of 2nd year players.
If it was up to me I'd wrap our starters in bubble wrap.....lots of it.

| Great catch by DHB for the TD.
Sharmarko has had a very good game.
Hargrave is getting pressure.
Richardson is fast. | |

| Not quite sure how they ruled that play a backwards pass, it was forward, and the receiver took four steps with the ball in hand. Clearly a fumble and recovery by our D. _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt | |

Yeah if this was a regular game, I'd be pretty pissed about that.

Yeah if this was a regular game, I'd be pretty pissed about that. Haha I'm in midseason form already swearing at the refs up and down! _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt

| I really like this Daryl Richardson kid. Shifty, fast, good vision, and has obviously been learning from Bell on how to be patient and let his blocks develop. Hits the holes hard, and makes guys miss. Fitz Toussaint better watch out. _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt | |

| Here are my hot takes: 1) Coates isn't quite ready for prime time. 2) D is having issues getting off the field on 3rd down. 3) Richardson may displace Toussaint as 3rd string back. 4) Don't give up on Grant or Thomas yet.

| Coates is having an off night, he'll bounce back. Looks to me he's trying too hard and being careless securing the football. He'll get better.
We have very poor depth, special teams just gave up a 96yd kick return.
Gradkowski hurt... I think it's time for him to go, he just can't stay healthy.
Some flashes here and there, but sloppiness as 2nd and 3rd Stringers have hit the field. Need to clean up the mistakes. _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt

| That tackling was some of the worst I've seen from a Steelers team, 3rd Stringers, or not. _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt | |

| I'm glad that was a preseason game. (Tackling was awful)
Guys that impressed: Hargrave- Won't take long until he's a starter. Richardson- Showed quickness and patients behind a "meh" o-line. Jared Hawkins- Looks like he can be a potential future starter. Matthews- Along with Hargrave, got pressure on the QB. No worries about the d-line depth, it's very good. Shark- Not sure I'd want him deep in coverage, but around the line of scrimmage, he can makes some plays. Dropped a easy INT shooting in like a missile. Berry- Booming punts
And Grant had a solid day, tackled well, a TD on a INT return.
Just in case anyone is wondering, Chickillo hurt his ankle, so didn't see much of him.

| Chickillo, Gradkowski Headline Steelers Injury Report Following Loss To Lions
The Pittsburgh Steelers lost their 2016 preseason opener to the Detroit Lions Friday night at Heinz Field by the score of 30-17 and after the game was over head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the injuries that took place during the contest.
Tomlin said that safety Ross Ventrone and quarterback Bruce Gradkowski both suffered hamstring injuries Friday night and that both would be further evaluated. Linebacker Anthony Chickillosuffered an ankle injury, according to Tomlin, and he will be further evaluated as well.
Tackle Brian Mihalik likely suffered an MCL sprain in one of his knees during the game, according to Tomlin.
“All of those guys will be evaluated,” said Tomlin. “The next time we get together I’ll probably have more detailed information. I know a couple of other guys went out with bumps and bruises, but to this point none of it appears to be significant enough to mention.
Gradkowski, who took over for starter Landry Jones in the second half, completed all three of his pass attempts for 22 yards before taking himself out of the game following a scramble.
The Steelers will have Saturday off and will resume their training camp practices at saint Vincent College in Latrobe on Sunday. Their next preseason game will take place on Thursday at home against the Philadelphia Eagles.
