http://www.steelcityunderground.com/2016/08/19/lots-blame-go-around-steelers-turnovers/ Good write-up. I don't even think Jones is a backup. He is a 3rd string QB at best. I've seen enough of the Jones era. In my simple opinion, the development just isn't there. I don't think it is ever going to be either. If Vaughan shows any form of spark in the pre-season, Jones will be out at as a QB prospect.

| Steelers defend Jones after throwing 4 interceptions in loss
PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Steelers didn't put all the blame on quarterback Landry Jones for Thursday's preseason loss against Philadelphia.
Jones threw four first-half interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown. But the Steelers were quick to defend their backup quarterback following the 17-0 loss.
''Some of it was good plays by them and some of it was negligence by us, whether it's route-running or throwing,'' Steelers' coach Mike Tomlin said. ''I understand that it falls under his stat line, but those are unit plays.''
Second-year wide receiver Sammie Coates took the blame for Jones' first interception. It happened on the opening play of the Steelers' second drive when Nolan Carroll stepped in front of a pass intended for Coates and returned the interception 38 yards for a score.
''I should've come off that ball harder,'' Coates said. ''It was all my fault. Not on the quarterback at all.''
The second interception came at the end of a lengthy drive that saw Jones march the Steelers to the Philadelphia 8-yard line. Jones moved the Steelers 71 yards in 14 plays, picking up two third downs along the way before a Cobi Hamilton fade was broken up by Leodis McKelvin and intercepted by Malcolm Jenkins.
''It was a real good throw,'' Hamilton said. ''He couldn't put it any better. I just have to go up and make the play.''

Regardless of who was at fault on each of the INTs, it's good to see players holding themselves accountable and defending their guy (even if their guy is the backup QB) instead of pointing fingers. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. | Jones is eye fucking his first receivers on most all routes, not going through reads, nor stepping up in the pocket to throw on 75% of his passes. It's basic fundamentals I am not seeing his growth on, and it's a problem. This is his fifth year in the league and he should know when NOT to throw to a well guarded receiver and find your hot route. _________________ Win, Lose, or Tie, I'm a Steeler fan until I DIE!!!

He most certainly did this on the first pick to Coates - that has been his problem area throwing those specific routes... he did it against KC and again w/Cincy in the playoffs. As for moving up in the pocket, I've noticed all of our QBs are standing pat, IMO it's all timing routes. That's why we're seeing sh*t short throws to outlets like Jesse James or Richardson, falling flat... but that too, he's making accurate throws to DHB and Grimble, and they're just dropping them. _________________ Connect With Steel City Underground - Articles and Podcasts Web | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | Google+ | Vine | Pinterest | iTunes | Google Play Music | Stitcher | TuneIn

| It's time for the Steelers to move on from Jones. He's not capable of delivering the goods if he is called in to duty.
While he has shown signs of being able to handle the game for limited amounts of time, I don't think he is capable of handling more than 10-15 minutes of game play. If he's required to play 3-4, or more games during the season, it'll be detrimental to any playoff run. _________________ 60 MIN 53 MEN 1 NATION STEELERS NATION I am the MAN that created the MYTH that started the LEGEND Don't choose good when greatness is available!

| It really surprises me the hate for Jones (and even Vick) when considering, if Charlie Batch didn't have those crazy good defenses, he probably wouldn't get the love he has in the 'Burgh all these years with an even touchdown to turnover ratio... Jones & Vick went 2-2, could've been 3-1 if we had a kicker, or even 1-3 if not for Bell's last second score... coulda woulda shoulda I suppose, but still makes me shake my head. I'm not expecting our backups to be world class future hall of famers _________________ Connect With Steel City Underground - Articles and Podcasts Web | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | Google+ | Vine | Pinterest | iTunes | Google Play Music | Stitcher | TuneIn

Most people aren't either, but a back up who has been with the team for 5 years, is the apparent successor of Ben, and has started multiple NFL games thus far in his career already, should be a more than competent quarterback. I'm not seeing that so far in pre-season Part 5 with Landry. _________________ Win, Lose, or Tie, I'm a Steeler fan until I DIE!!!

Me neither. I just don't want to watch games where he is the QB in the fetal position.

| This is Landry's 4th year, and he didn't throw a REAL NFL pass until how many games into last season?
The expectations are a little wild.
There's a reason why guys like Bruce G or Vick are backups, and not starters... but I've beaten this horse to death enough! _________________ Connect With Steel City Underground - Articles and Podcasts Web | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | Google+ | Vine | Pinterest | iTunes | Google Play Music | Stitcher | TuneIn

| Aside from Derek Anderson in Carolina, there's not a backup that is realistically going to go more than .500 if their starting QB goes down. As fans, we might have been spoiled by having Charlie Batch or Byron Leftwich, who, like Anderson, were starting QBs prior to joining the Steelers as backups.
I'll take Jones over Dennis Dixon, Brian St. Pierre ... hell I'd take him over Kordell Stewart.
This will be his 4th year and up to this point he's held a clipboard for 2 years and only allowed to throw to scrubs who never made the 53 man team. Last year was his first look at what it's like to play with a real NFL team and he started, what, 2 games?
I'm not getting caught up in the media bashing of his 4 picks the other night. Coates ran a shitty hitch route that allowed an uncontested pick (when he could have just as easily caught the pass in front of the defender like the route was intended to do). Coates ran another shitty route on a post/flag. Unfortunately for Landry, Coates never faked the post and then didn't attempt to make a play on the ball on the flag. His tipped pick attempt for Colbi Hamilton was a perfect throw. You kind of expect a taller receiver to make a play on the ball ... hell, those guys beg their QBs to throw it up for them to go after. But Hamilton, who is a long shot to make the team, half-assed it. The last pick reminded Heath fans how much we miss him when his heir apparent, James, showed us he's no blocker. Getting his ass handed to him in mid-throw is not something we should blame on Jones.
He's no HOFer and I don't even see him as a Pro Bowler. But I think he can be serviceable with more work with the 1st team offense.
