The Steelers opened the vault over the last month.
They paid big money to retain cornerback Ike Taylor and tackle Willie Colon. They paid even bigger money to give monster extensions to linebackers Lawrence Timmons and Lamarr Woodley. The vault is now closed.
Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Troy Polamalu and Mike Wallace will have to wait until 2012 to get new contracts.

| troy's time will come. i think with wallace they will wait and see what they have in sanders, brown and cotchery as well as a few others before shelling out a huge contract for him _________________ "Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead." - Butch | |

| I think Wallace will get his. Troy got his a few years ago and he's on the down turn. I think he'll need to take a home town discount for his next contract. While still effective, he'd have to avoid serious injury this year to change my mind. _________________ 60 MIN 53 MEN 1 NATION STEELERS NATION I am the MAN that created the MYTH that started the LEGEND Don't choose good when greatness is available! | |

| I mostly agree with both of you. On Polamalu, I agree with truck ... I think they want to see how he holds up this year. If he is injured a lot again this season, it might not be worth it to invest a lot of money in him. I really hate thinking about that with Troy. On Wallace, I agree with Va ... If Brown, Sanders, and Cotchery can be solid receivers for years to come, Wallace would be a luxury, but not a necessity. It wouldn't make sense to overpay for Wallace when you can get the same production out of the other guys. The key, I think, will be what kind of season Wallace has. If he takes the next step and becomes a superstar, I think they have to at least try to keep him. But if he doesn't show much improvement over last season, he'll be expendable considering the rest of the talent we have at the position, and some other team will overpay for him. With that said, I want them both back. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass. | |

With that said, I want them both back. Yeah but eventually you're going to have to pay someone and I think Wallace, right now, has earned that paycheck. He's still got some growing and we all know that could change. However, from what I've seen of Wallace, he's going to be a force to reckon with in the future. However, having only Wallace and not someone to help him, would be detrimental to the team overall. It would be like having BA as head coach, OC, DC, and duplicating himself enough to play every position on the field. _________________ 60 MIN 53 MEN 1 NATION STEELERS NATION I am the MAN that created the MYTH that started the LEGEND Don't choose good when greatness is available!

| Polamalu has earned the right to retire as a Pittsburgh Steeler. Anything else would be blasphemy. 'Nuff said. We also have to keep Wallace ( maybe not the 108 version so much! ). Ward is going to be leaving us soon as well as Smith, Farrior, Hampton, Harrison, Keisel, Foote, Hoke, Leftwich, Batch, and possibly Clark and the aforementioned Polamalu. There should be a lot of money freeing up over the next couple of years to get this done. We have to keep something in place as the old guard passes the torch and Wallace will be needed to bridge that gap. _________________ -"I stand corrected... | Wallace needs to improve on getting off the line when getting Jammed. Capers pointed that out at the super bowel last year. (Please review the last play of the super bowl for the example). If he figures that out I beleive the Steelers will put ALOT of money into him. I bet Troy will stick around to he decides to retire but the steelers will keep him on 1 to 3 year contract to see how his legs will hold up. He is fan favorite i do not see Colbert letting him go.

Believe me ... I hope we can keep Wallace. I really don't feel like changing both my sig AND my username. I could be wrong, but here's how I look at it ... we just locked up Taylor, Timmons, and Woodley. That's a HUGE investment for the Steelers. If Wallace has a mediocre to good year, it wouldn't be worth paying him what he'll want because of the other talent we have at WR. If he explodes, he'll generate high demand, and I'm not sure we'd be able to afford him, especially if we have to pay Troy. I just have a bad feeling about it. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass.

| It'll be interesting. But even with Brown and Sanders I think we need to keep him. The guy is a stud and will be for years. Can't keep everyone though. _________________ (Big thanks to Wally for hooking me up with a great sig.) "I am proud to be a Steeler, no doubt about it. I was born to be a Steeler." - Farrior | |

| I know we're still in the preseason, but if Antonio Brown continues to play like he has, who would you rather have, Brown or Wallace? I know the correct answer is "both." But if Wallace wants too much money, is he worth it, especially when we have other players to sign? _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart.
