Steelers @ Panthers (pre-season Game 4)

offense does nothing with the turnover, end of 3rd, same score

now it's just the no namers getting run over by the other no namers

Another turnover for the Steelers defense. I'm hoping this time the defense rewards them with a TD

and once again Dobbs fails to move the chains or produce any points for the defense's efforts.

Dobbs does not look good.

He's looked more comfortable the last 3 plays than he has the entire 2nd half

Hamilton had a nice catch and run, then had the ball knocked out from behind and the Panthers take over at the 20.

Defense does their job, and with 1:07 left Panthers will punt and it's time to see what Dobbs can do with the guys who probably won't make the squad.

Ayers with a nice return on the punt and the Steelers have good field position at the 47 yard line and 49 seconds

Dobbs has looked more comfortable running the no-huddle than he has running the offense the entire game.

With seconds remaining, Dobbs takes the offense down field and scores the game winning touchdown.

I'm glad this game wasn't perfectly executed. It gives the team a lot to work on leading up to the first game against Cleveland.

The starting defense played solid, with only minor mishaps in the first quarter.
The starting offense, oh wait - some of them didn't play, so certainly room to grow
Special Teams were decent, but nothing really stood out until Ayers had the nice run at the end of the game.

The best part about tonight, is the face only one person was injured and the starters are set for next Sunday in Clown Town.

I thought Dobbs looked more composed tonight then he did all preseason. I still think Jones is the backup, but I'd be giving Dobbs some consideration. Jones hasn't done a damn thing as our backup besides beating the Cardinals once, and the Browns. I think on any other team in this league Jones would be lucky to be a 3rd Stringer.

imo, give Dobbs another year he'll be the back up QB what Dodds showed me this preseason as a rookie Ben not playing Jones hurt without game plan he had a good command of the offense and the players respected him.

Yeah him being able to sit back and learn would be for the best. I just can't stand Jones, I feel like that guy has been given so many chances. He cost us the Giant's preseason game which we should have won (I know, I know, it's just preseason ), and he threw another pick against the Panthers, although that one was partially not his fault. Jones just seems to me to have poor pocket awareness, questionable accuracy with the football, and he makes poor decisions. I've defended him in the past, but even I've reached the point with the guy where every time I see him I cringe at the thought of him playing.

I'm just going to hope that Ben stays upright and healthy all season.

It turned out to be a good thing that Jones didn't play much in the preseason.
It gave Dobbs ample opportunity to display his potential.
All things considered, in time I think he will be a reliable backup QB. Who knows, maybe more.
He certainly showed more growth and development in his first preseason than Landry ever did.

I totally agree.

I'm not a Landry hater. In fact, I've defended him quite a bit both on and off this forum. But Landry looked horrendous in his first preseason. His second wasn't much better. By his third preseason, he started showing some progression and reason for hope.

I think Dobbs is more polished right now than Jones was in his third season. Quite honestly, an argument can be made that Dobbs is better than Landry right now. The advantage that Landry has is familiarity with the offense and real-game experience. That's the only reason I can see to keep him ahead of Dobbs.

That's the beauty of practicing week in and week out. Dobbs will have the opportunity to grow in to the offense. IMO, Dobbs will eventually outwork Jones and solidify himself as the #2 man.

I personally feel Dobbs will outwork Jones through the first few weeks of the season, or Jones will lose a pivotal game during the season, and Dobbs will come to the rescue.
