Steelers Reduce Roster to 58; Leftwich on IR Posted 1 hour ago
The Steelers have placed quarterback Byron Leftwich on their Reserve/Injured List and released 21 others, reducing their roster to 58 players. Leftwich suffered a broken arm in the Steelers’ third preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons and will miss the 2011 season.
The team needs to release five more players before Saturday’s 6 p.m. deadline to get their roster to the league-mandated 53 players.
The 21 players released today include linebackers Baraka Atkins, Mario Harvey, Chris McCoy and Mortty Ivy, defensive lineman Corbin Bryant, defensive backs Brett Greenwood, Macho Harris, Donovan Warren and Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith, running backs James Johnson and John Clay, offensive linemen Colin Miller, Kyle Jolly, John Malecki, Trevis Turner and Keith Williams, wide receivers Armand Robinson, Wes Lyons and Tyler Grisham, tight end Jamie McCoy and kicker Swayze Waters.

Hey I liked Grisham too. Sorry to see him go, but better him than one of the other WRs on the roster.

Grisham was cut ... sorry Va.
No need to be so blunt about it.
Now all of his plans are up in smoke.
He had such high hopes for the kid.
I guess it was all just a pipe dream.
The WR situation was a sticky one.
The kid was generating some buzz coming into camp.
Grisham's chances were doobie-ous at best.
VA will probably have some kind parting words for him.
Should I keep going?
he tore the joint up during camp
he couldnt catch one during the game
his luck went to pot

His future's a bit cloudy now.
We(e)'d like to have seen more from him.
We'll miss seeing him on our grass.
He was stoned from the roster.
Looks like he'll have more time to hang out with his buds.
Maybe he can give Ryan Leaf a call to give him advice on how to cope with it?
Hopefully, he'll hooka up with another team.

I think the real shocking cuts were Butler and Hills. I really thought they would be part of the team this year. Just listening to the off season I heard the Butler was taking steps to make the team and Lewis was in the dog house. Hills I was trying to read up on but was he one who was injured the first half of the year last year? i think he was but just goes to show that the first impression could be your only impression. I really had a good feeling about the gamecocks (Saunders) he shown size blocking running and catching. The one I was hoping to make the team was Lyons, I thought he shown enough to make the cut, lets hope he comes back on the practice squad. I think the running back well be underestimated and I really like Dwyer running in the preseason games.
GO STEELERS anybody out there ready for a little renegade!!!!!

I was shocked Butler was cut too. I pray somehow he finds his way to our practice squad, but I doubt it.
I'm a bit surprised by the Hills cut, but at the same time not. He's had quite some time to show something and hasn't really wowed anyone. Maybe we'll pick up a better OT/G off the cuts trash heap from another team?
I too am happy to see Saunders and Dwyer on the team. I think they can be quality contributers to the offense. No doubt Saunders will be an upgrade over Spaeth.
You're damn right I'm ready for some Renegade!
