| The thing I was most curious about is how JuJu would arrive. He likes to have fun, so I was hoping he wouldn't follow in AB's footsteps and make a spectacle out of his arrival. He did not.

| Steelers ditch flash as training camp opens
LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — No helicopter swooping in for a wind-swept landing. No Rolls Royce wrapped in black-and-gold complete with a chauffeur in full uniform.
No firetrucks or random all-terrain vehicles either.
The 2019 version of the Pittsburgh Steelers reported to training camp at Saint Vincent College on Thursday by significantly toning down the kitschy theatrics that had become a staple in recent years thanks to the tricked-out rides of former stars Antonio Brown, James Harrison and Brett Keisel.
OK, so maybe cornerback Joe Haden did pull up to Rooney Hall in a white Rolls Royce. And sure, wide receiver Eli Rogers rode shotgun on a tractor trailer before hopping out while wearing overalls with a green reflective shirt underneath and work boots on his feet while carrying a barbell.
But that was about as weird as it got. And that's kind of the point.

Every year I say I'm going to go. Every year I end up not going. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass.

| Roethlisberger Impressed With Rookie Johnson’s Run Test: ‘I Think He Was Barely Breathing’
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver Diontae Johnson impressed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger at times during the team’s OTA sessions in the limited time the two players worked together. Not long after the Steelers reported to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe on Thursday for the start of their 2019 training camp, Johnson, the team’s first of two third-round draft picks this year, quickly impressed Roethlisberger again as the quarterback noted on Friday how well conditioned the rookie wide receiver out of Toledo appears to now be.
“Yeah there’s some excitement there for sure,” Roethlisberger said of Johnson. “Any young guy that comes in needs to always work conditioning, no rookie ever comes in and is in great condition. And I saw him run his conditioning test yesterday and I think he was barely breathing. And I heard he was here a lot in the offseason working. So you can tell that he really took that to heart, that he needed to get into shape and I’ve seen that so far, eve though it’s early.”

https://steelersdepot.com/2019/07/2019-steelers-training-camp-diary-day-one/ He describes what was going on in great detail. Not as good as being there but a close second. It sounds like there will be a lot of competition at several positions.

Yep. There are a number of positions up for grabs. Meanwhile... _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass.

| I don't soak in every bit of camp news, but from everything I've seen, the 2 players that keep sticking out so far are JuJu and Ola Adeniyi. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass. | |

| Loving what I'm hearing from camp. Some highlights:
- Adeniyi impressing just like he did before he got injured last year. - Christian Scotland Williamson is reportedly much improved. Love hearing it because if he can become a football player he could be deadly, especially as a blocker with his size. - Diontae Johnson is reported to be much faster than how he tested. Has had some issues with drops, but is also a playmaker. - No fumbles from any of the running backs through four days of practice. - Benny Snell has been impressive and is showing to be a good all-rounder, in practice at least. Will be nice to see what he can do in a preseason game. - Dobbs having issues with accuracy and threw quite a few interceptions in the first and second practices. - Rudolph playing well. Not lighting the world on fire, but more consistent than Dobbs. - Juju is not having issues making plays without Antonio Brown on the field. - Edmunds appears to be more comfortable and is stepping up his game from last year. Has been around the ball a lot in practice. _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt

| Joe Haden was carted off the field. No word on injury, but either sprain, strain, or tear are good guesses.

Edit: I was wrong! Haden had his foot trampled on. Team says not serious. Took the cart to avoid him walking up hill.

https://twitter.com/dlolley_pgh/status/1159201797334081538?s=19 Yeah I had read that at Latrobe they have to walk quite a distance to the fields, so usually players, even with the most minor of injuries such as cramps get carted off to go and get checked out just to save them the walking, and risking any kind of further injury before they are seen. Definitely breathed a sigh of relief though, last thing we need is the strongest link in our secondary going down in camp. _________________ "Success isn't owned, it's leased and the rent is due every day." - TJ Watt

| Based on everything that's being said about camp I have to think this will be a more focused team with more "interchangeable parts". For instance there is Cam Sutton who can play Safety and Corner. Hilton can play slot or outside if need be. Baron can play MLB or Safety etc. The key will be health because the culture is already changing in a good way as the team gets comfortable with each other. As for the players that do not make the 53 man squad I believe most will catch on with other teams and some might be starters. We have that much talent. | |
