| The Pittsburgh Steelers now have rookie undrafted quarterback Devlin Hodges as their starter but that might not have been the case had the team been able to sign back one of their former players after starter Ben Roethlisberger was lost for the season in Week 2 due to an elbow injury.
According to an interview in the Tampa Bay Times, XFL commissioner Oliver Luck is quoted as saying that the Steelers wanted to sign quarterback Landry Jones back to the team after losing Roethlisberger to a season-ending elbow injury in Week 2. However, Luck essentially went on to say that being as Jones had already signed a contract with the Dallas Renegades of the XFL that the league wasn’t going to relinquish the rights so that he could sign with an NFL team.

| Right now, Landry Jones would be a better alternative to back up Duck than Rudolph (again - Rudolph hasn't been right since his concussion - so his future is still as foggy as his head).
But at that time, that signing would've kept the Steelers from re-signing Hodges. THAT would've been tragic. | |

| I think things are going as well as can be expected with an undrafted rookie at the helm and all the injuries we've had so far this year. Thank you XFL for your contribution to the 2019 Steelers.
I wouldn't have said this 5 games ago but I like our chances against the Bills Sunday night. | |
