so has edmunds really played any better than davis ? because if he is i seem to be missing it.
comparing their first 2 years in the league ints...davis had 4 to edmunds 1
edmunds blitzed 44 times and got 1 sack...davis blitzed 4 times for 2.5 sack edmunds had 3 tackles for loss....davis had 11 edmunds had 7 passes defended...davis had 13
besides numbers of tackles the stats pretty much points to davis as the better safety...i dont get it ...
the big difference is a first was wasted on edmunds instead of a 2nd. is starting edmunds just tomlins way of not admitting he made a mistake ? i mean davis didnt do enough to warrant giving him a new big contract , but im talking about right now. why not let them compete for the starting job ?

As things are there probably isn't a lot to lose giving Davis some chances back there. It is really disappointing how the secondary has gone and the inability to get some stars or at least substantial pieces. It seemed like they might finally be a strength this year but probably the weakest link on the D.
I've been watching a lot of old games from the 70s-90s on YouTube. It really is disappointing when you look at how strong those secondaries were compared to now. I wish we had a Blount and Shell roaming around back there now.

I agree Davis should get some time as the starter because I don't believe he can do a worse job. It seems to me Davis would be inclined to make the most of his second chance. I'd also sit Minkah down and have a talk with him about playing with more intensity. After all that's why we brought him here. The other thing here is I don't think Butler is scheming to bring out the best in these guys.

i wanted edmunds in the draft...they just took the wrong edmunds. his brother would look great in the BG... they took terrell at 28 and tremaine went at 16. in hindsight i would have been willing to sacrifice selecting james washington and even rudolf to move up ahead of buffalo to get tremaine.

if Davis was showing more in practice he'd be on the field over Edmunds.

im not so sure about that. that would be Tomlin admitting they fucked up the 2018 draft. but i digress. do you think based on those stats and what you have seen so far that edmunds is really an upgrade over davis ? because im just not seeing it. maybe edmunds improves in the future, but so far......not seeing it. most draftniks thought he was a reach in the first similar to artie burns. i wasnt a fan of davis, but i didnt think he was absolutely useless. if i were to grade them from what i have seen so far, i would give davis a C and edmunds a C-. edmunds just has not made any big plays besides that sack this year which anyone would have made.

I haven't really been wowed by Edmunds, but I wasn't ever really wowed by Davis either. They seem like solid guys, but not dudes that are going to go out and make splash plays on the regular. I'd still like to see how Edmunds performs over the course of the rest of this season though. I would have to sit and watch games front to back and focus on Edmunds specifically to speak more to how he's being utilized within the defense.
Would be nice to get a Ryan Clark type of guy back there to compliment Minkah Fitzpatrick. Andre Cisco out of Syracuse, and Paris Ford out of Pitt could be targets early in next year's draft.

The difference between the two is that Edmunds isn't fucking it up as much as Davis did. Remember that play where Haden intercepted a pass in the endzone and that Davis popped the ball out of Haden's hands resulting in a touchdown instead? Reason we lost that game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-EaiC6WC1s
I understand that Edmunds isn't a worldbeater either and maybe he profits of playing in a better defense than Davis in his years, but I would take Edmunds over Davis.

Steelers just need a center fielder safety paired with Fitzpatrick so Fitzpatrick can read QB eyes.

Fitzpatrick is the free safety , so he is supposed to be that center fielder. if you watch the moats video i posted he says the difference between fitz last year and this year is fitz isnt taking chances. he isnt trying to guess where the ball is going he is just playing his assignment. Troy polomalu as a SS did things outside of what a SS traditionally does. he was a big risk taker and one of a kind. he got away with what he did with speed an athleticism. the coach's allowed him to pretty much do whatever he wanted. line up where ever he wanted, because they trusted he had the speed to get back to his assignment if need be. Troy probably covered five miles of ground a game the way he ran all over the field. it was silly the way people used to try to compare ed reed and troy considering they played 2 different positions.
