Sad stories all the way around. Way too young.

Clemente was probably the most shocking one ever. I was a young Pirates fan when he died. He was an amazing superstar, one of the best to ever play the game.

Bob Moose died about 5 years later about 15 miles from where I grew up.

All of them sad, so many tragic accidents.

Clemente dying hit my Dad hard. That was his favorite player. My Pops still talks about it, where he was when the news broke and how he didn't believe it and was waiting for him to show up somewhere.

They never found his body. A lot of people held up hope that he somehow survived and would be found alive, but it was not to be.

A little-known story: a pitcher from the Expos, Tom Walker, helped him load the plane and planned to go with him. But Clemente told him to go enjoy the New Year (Walker was single at the time).

Years later, Walker's son, Neil Walker, played for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
