Quote :
When asked if the Steelers will be active during the deadline, head coach Mike Tomlin said they are “open for business.”
Pittsburgh has been linked to Denver Broncos’ Justin Simmons and Chicago Bears’ Jaylon Johnson and was even named odds-on favorites for Titans’ DeAndre Hopkins.
Broncos’ cornerback Patrick Surtain II has also been talked about as a fit for the Steelers. And even Carolina Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns has been tossed in the conversation.

D Hop is 31 yrs old and has a cap hit of 16 million next year for the tits. he missed a lot of games in 21 and 22. how many times have we seen teams regret throwing money at a 30+ yr old receiver ? he might have a little juice left in the tank, but realisticly how much difference would he make ? is receiver the biggest problem on the team ? pickett cant get the ball to the receivers they already have.
justin simmons is also pushing 30 and wont be cheap.
patrick surtan will be a costly trade. givin the plethora of needs this team has, both of the lines, i dont know that trading away a bunch of draft capitol would be the best move.

Gerry Dulac in his chat last week talked about them maybe going for a CB/secondary type of help. Johnson is asking to be traded.

there is a reason why shitty teams are willing to trade away there only bright spots on their team. to acquire multiple draft picks in the hopes of pluggin multiple holes. the steelers have multiple holes. if we had dion sanders in his prime it wouldnt make the offense better or help stop the opposing teams running game. we need guys in the trenches. every year we see teams offering up the skill positions for trade, but rarely see high end linemen on the trading block.

I wouldn't mind seeing a guy like Patrick Surtain come over to really compliment the young JPJ instead of long-in-the-tooth Pat Pete but that being said I agree with you MoP our biggest issues are in the trenches. Namely C on the o-line, and the D-Line in general. Getting Heyward back will help out a bit but he's getting older and I still want to see a run stuffing, true 3-4 NT added to the roster at some point. Breiden Fehoko was brought in because of his run stuffing ability but to my knowledge hasn't seen the field. I don't get why they even signed him at this point. They seem content with other teams hand me downs in Montravius Adams, and rookie Keanu Benton. Adams is too inconsistent, and Benton is a rookie and still needs to develop. So while it's those guys, I think we're still going to see opposing teams running it right down our throats every week.
The o-line can't run block to save their lives. I haven't compared the overall stats but I'm willing to bet we're worse in the rushing department than last season. Mason Cole is a big part of that. Dude is probably a solid backup in this league, but starting material he is not. I know this has been said time and time again by other fans but I still lament us having chosen Najee Harris instead of Creed Humphrey. What good is a running back if you don't have an o-line that can give them any room to work? I mean these guys are getting hit in the backfield every single play it seems.

hell look at what they have done with Minkah...they've turned him into an in the box SS because they know the front 7 can't stop shit. its odd how every year they seem to make upgrades with new players, the fans get excited , but yet they keep getting the same shitty results. its just like the out of control crime wave that has plagued the country , we just cant seem to find the common denominator

Isn't that why Minkah wanted out of Miami? And just so we're clear it's "mostly peaceful" out of control crime. The media tells us so. Don't get me started.

The ONLY trade I would want to see is one for a Center... I know that isn't gonna happen but that is the only thing that will help this team right now and make an immediate impact.
PFF had Cole with another terrible rating against the Jags and has him dead last amongst all other playing Centers in the League right now... LAST MOTHER FUCKERS!!! How on fucking God's green earth did you not realize you need a great Center to dominate in the run game? Gonna hang that squarely on Khan and Tomlin...
I like Mason Cole he is a nice guy and a great team mate but he is a back up Center/Guard... nothing more and he is killing our run and passing game week in and week out.

Although I think JPJ is an exception, Tomlin's regime seems incapable of drafting quality secondary and linemen. They almost have to get those positions thru trade or free agency...they haven't done so well there in free agency, though. A center would have been great today, but unfortunately that didn't happen.

well it is not that they're incapable, it is more like they're unwilling to pay the price for a good ones (linemen), be it in draft capitol or money. this draft was the first time they have spent on an olinemen since ... decastro ? when was the last 2nd rounder....mike adams ? the only free agent linemen they acquire are bargain basement cast offs. who new that doing the bare minimum to restock a position group for 15 + years could have such bad results...

well this was a boring trade deadline season. usually there's at least one trade i'm pissed off that the steelers weren't part off. not so much this year.
