More mediocrity. When's the last time tomlin even won a playoff game?
The only trophy Tomlin will see. The standard!

2022-2023 I'd have said fire him. Since Khan is now the GM and bringing in legitimate FAs and helping draft quality players maybe we win SB in spite of Tomlin. I do know this. It's going to take a SB win to stop the screaming if we continue to lose to inferior teams.

Considering all of the changes on the offensive side of the ball I would say a Playoff win this year would be and should be a realistic and obtainable goal for this current team all things considered. If they can do that they have something to move forward with.

I'm actually OK with it. I feel like things are getting turned around. I like what they've done as far as the Front Office in hiring Khan as Colbert's replacement. It feels like player/personnel decisions are getting better. I've been at times a very vocal critic of Tomlin's, we all know he has struggled against inferior opponents playing down to them, and his lack of playoff success over the past decade is extremely frustrating. That being said, the man is a good leader of men, he's not perfect, but anyone who could handle a personality like Antonio Brown for as long as Tomlin did has an ability to lead. Not to mention he's been dealing with NFL players for a long time now, I think coaching at the NFL level is exponentially more difficult due to the inflated egos and the money these guys are getting paid. Urban Meyer is a good example of how a good college coach can fail miserably at the NFL level. Being a leader of young men or kids is one thing, being a leader of grown men with egos is another.
I am good with them giving him a few more years. If he falters during that time and has zero playoff success then the Rooney's should definitely send him packing. Maybe I'm being optimistic to a fault but I have a good feeling about the direction this team is headed in.
That being said if Tomlin sucks it up and continues to have this team playing down to garbage teams like the Raiders, and Jaguars again and again I'll be cussing him out.
It's frustrating when you want your team to succeed and you have the same coach for so many seasons, I think it's easy to look at the negatives and focus on them without also looking at the positives. I'm a fan of two franchises that historically like to hold on to coaches instead of firing them every few seasons and it just seems to me that both Pittsburgh and Iowa have success because they are patient with their coaches and they keep that continuity with their players. I get upset with Coach Tomlin and Coach Ferentz every season, you'll see me cussing them out with the best of em, but when I look back with the benefit of hindsight I think the continuity and consistency has been more helpful than it has been a hindrance.
If I might touch more on college football I'm honestly more on board with Iowa moving on with Ferentz though just because the landscape of college football has changed so much with the NIL and the transfer portal and it feels like the game is passing Kirk by. Kirk is a great leader and has been a fantastic coach for Iowa and done a lot of good for the community and state as well but I think there's more evidence to support moving on from him than there is for Tomlin at least at this point right now. Guess we're gonna see when real football starts. Agree or disagree with what I've said but I do think that both Tomlin/Ferentz are actually going to be on the hot seat if they don't succeed in the next few years. I think the fact that Tomlin was only given a 3yr extension and not something like a 5yr extension speaks to that.

I think Tomlin's a great leader. I know I'm in the minority with that on this forum, but most of you in here know by now that I don't care if people agree with me or not. He's led some gawd-awful teams to playoffs and near playoffs - teams that should have lost 10-12 games. Like, how do you stay competitive and actually win games starting Duck freaking Hodges?
That said - it's time to WIN. Khan has been an amazing hire. Couldn't be happier with his moves (excepting the Cam Sutton signing of course).
Go Steelers!

considering how they have watered down the playoffs with 7 out of 16 teams , or 43.75% chance to make it before the season starts , i dont think just making the playoffs is a good metric of success. its right up there with the 1000 yd season. the 4 worst teams in the league could all be in 1 division and at least one of them is going to the playoffs.

That's true, but the Steelers are in the most competitive division in the league so getting to the play-offs is not a gimme.

of course not. i just think it is important when comparing the accomplishments of past NFL to present NFL , that context is given. for example chuck nolls steelers of the 70's ,before the season started had a 35.71% chance to make the playoffs compared to tomlins 43.75%. with only 5 playoff spot available , Nolls teams playing 14 games had less margin for error.

The thing I hold the most against Tomlin is his lack of play-offs succes, certainly recently. It's not only that we don't win, we get blown out most of the times.
That being said, he also has some qualities. One of them is how to prepare his team for divisional games which are the most important games of the regular season and the reason we (have a chance to) reach the play-offs. We're 16-8 in the AFCN in the last 4 seasons. That's quite astonishing if you look at the other results of all teams.

so they have a 66.67 division winning percentage that has resulted in winning the division 25% of the time. basically his positive accomplishments just shine an even bigger spotlight on his failures. they haven't won a playoff game since 2016 and there is only 2 common denominators over the past 8 years. mike tomlin and art rooney 2. i'm old enough to remember how the media was trying to run chuck noll out of pittsburg by the mid 80's. apparently maintaining an above .500 record buys more good will and patients than 4 super bowls.
