Unless he sees this as a great chance to win it all next year and insure a first ballot entry and will play cheap. Yeah I'm not believing any of that either.
i also dont think we can completely rule out that another team, or teams may want to bid on wilsons services. in particular, Tennessee. a state with no income tax has to be attractive to an aging vet looking to pad his bank account with possibly his last contract.
It'll depend on two things: What Russ wants, and what the Steelers want.
Yes, I know that's a very Obvious Adams thing to say, but on the Steelers end, if he takes them to a Super Bowl or at least it looks like he can do so in the future, then its a different discussion.
On Russ's end, if he believes the Steelers are in contention to win another Lombardi, and he believes he can give them where, it would cement his legacy, and maybe he'd be willing to take less if need be.
If not, and the Steelers just look like a dumpster fire at the end of the year, perhaps he just hits the market with the idea of cashing in on his last contract.
How the season ends will determine a lot - on both sides.
Also there's talk that Arthur Smith might leave. UNC is calling. How would that affect Russ's decision if at all?
I personally don't want Smith to go. Its tough having a new OC every year.

I'm betting if everything goes great for Russ the rest of the season he'll go to the highest bidder next season then it Justin Fields team.

I think we have to assume that that's a very real possibility.
Its going to be another fascinating offseason!

I know this much. Using Fields in the RPO minus the P formation seems damaging if Russ moves on and Justin takes over. I think it sends the message to run first, pass second. I also think Justin has a ceiling too low to be a starter in today's NFL.There I said it. I fear Russ will leave and they'll bring in some other career backup to compete for the mediocre QB position. I also hope I'm wrong.

I'd keep Russ, and potentially draft a developmental guy to replace Fields if someone decent is available. Otherwise WR is a top need for me (Tetairoa McMillan anyone?), as well as DL, and RB might be a need depending on what happens with Najee.

The way Russ has played, there is no way I would move on from him if I could possibly help it.
I know it'll cost $$$, but he has been THE biggest difference maker on this team this season.

Would be nice if Wilson be all warm and fuzzy in the Steelers offense and the team gives the team gives a cap freindly retirement contract.

Ha ha, I know you are joking.
First of all there is NOT a franchise QB worth the #1 pick this year. Its a very bad QB year.
Plus our D would go to crap. Yes I like Herbig and Highsmith but TJ makes it all cook. Teams move heaven and earth to scheme against TJ.

Don't have to be a #1 pick make a deal on a multi pick trade once you figured out where the QB of intrest will fall or trade TJ for next years #1 pick and some picks in this years draft.

I don't think there is one in this next draft.

Take that #1 pick and trade down for a lower 1st round and another 2nd round pick wink wink, doesn't have to be a QB take the best player available for a homerun pick and build around that player.
