The Indianapolis Colts have selected Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano to be their next coach, it was announced Wednesday.
The Colts said they will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday to introduce Pagano. That announcement came shortly after a league source told NFL.com's Steve Wyche about the move.
"It's difficult to leave the Ravens, but I couldn't pass up on this great opportunity," Pagano said in a statement released by the Ravens. "I'm just thrilled and so excited."
Likely not so excited about the move is Ravens Pro Bowl linebacker Terrell Suggs, who said earlier this month he would selfishly discourage any team from hiring away Pagano.
"Chuck Pagano, if anybody is trying to hire a head coach, if they ask, I'm going to say he sucks," Suggs jokingly said. "He's terrible. He's a terrible coach. His players don't love him, and he doesn't know what he's doing when he's calling a game."
It will be the first head-coaching job for Pagano, 51, who just ended his first season as the Ravens' defensive coordinator. Baltimore finished the regular season as the NFL's third-ranked defense in both scoring (16.6 points per game) and total yards (288.9 yards per game).
Pagano was the Ravens' secondary coach from 2008 to 2010. He served in the same capacity with the Cleveland Browns from 2001 to 2004, then coached the Oakland Raiders' defensive backs from 2005 to 2006.

Good news for us! This will be the Ravens' 3rd defensive coordinator in 3 seasons this upcoming year. I have to think sooner or later that kind of turnover will catch up to you as a team. I think Pagano was a really good d-coordinator and the Ravens D may take a step back next season with his departure. We can only hope.
