PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — LP Field may be the home of the “Music City Miracle,” but some nostalgic Steeler fans might also remember it as the scene of the crime.

With the Steelers set to play the Titans this week, Dewayne told “Seibel, Starkey & Miller” Wednesday about their Jan. 2003 playoff loss to Tennessee, during which he was called for running into the kicker on the game-winning field goal attempt when the Titans’ Joe Nedney apparently flopped after the play.

“Kickers sometimes do that. I didn’t touch the guy, but he’s just trying to help his team,” Washington said of that AFC Divisional Playoff contest. “The refs make mistakes, and that’s just the way it goes. People down here don’t really talk about it too much. There’s a lot of plays, as a cornerback, you wish you had back, but that’s the nature of the position.”

In the meantime, Washington is the first to admit that position, within pro football, is now much different from his own playing days...

Man do I remember that game, the same day in another game (I think it was san fran) there was a blatant missed call as well that should have been called and it wasn't. While bad calls are hard to live with I have always said that if you don't want to have a game end on a bad call you need to put it away early. Easier said than done but that's just my 2 cents.

In general, that's kind of how I feel as well. I guess it depends on how the rest of the game went. If both teams played well, you hate to see the game decided on a bad call. But if we played poorly, and the only reason we're even in the game is because the other team also played poorly, then you can't get mad at the refs when for 59 minutes we didn't do much of anything to win the game ourselves.
