When you are 7-2, sitting at the top of both your division and conference, there is little to be upset about, pick at, or even find fault in. You can find the silver lining and happily move on like many do. Why get upset when the apple cart isn’t toppled over?
Five of your last seven games are at home.
Of those, two are division games against 0-9 Cleveland and 4-5 Baltimore, both who you have beaten.
You don’t have to face Aaron Rogers, or another Christmas gift with DeShaun Watson out for the year when you visit Houston on December 25th.

this offense sucks,

I really dislike 3rd and short shotgun when Bell is having a good game stay under center and made defenses think is it a running play, a draw play, a play action play or a pass play. watch the 3rd down conversion rate go up imo the only time the Steelers offense should be in shotgun on 3rd down is 3rd and 10+ yards.

another thing I dislike about the Steelers offense in side the 10 yard line here come the shotgun offense stay under center you got a lot more options.

I could see the use of the (as i wrote above) shotgun if the Steelers didn't have a running game but the do a very good running game.

make it look like your going to pound the ball with the very good running game then run your offensive deception off of that.

just my 2 cent of 101 Steelers offensive football and the talent they have on that side if the ball right now. The thing that's frustrating, is it's midseason and the offense hasn't found its midseason form yet.

Starting to wonder if the offensive personnel we have are just overrated? Bryant's route running and hands seemed to regress back to what he was as a rookie, minus his knack for the long ball. On the bright side, Juju seems to have added that spark back to the offense.

Bell is playing well, but if he doesn't have a big game, the offense looks bad and really inconsistent. And while he looks good, he doesn't look that great. Averaging under 4 yards a carry is abysmal for someone who's considered to be the best running back in the league.

Stack the box shut down Bell and make Ben beat you with his arm and he just can’t get it done. Look at BEns numbers from mid way last year and all of this year and it’s obvious his ability to put the team on his shoulders and win games isn’t happening. His accuracy has been god awful he is hanging his receivers out to dry on short passes throwing high over the middle... damn near killed JuJu yesterday...

If the team is underachieving then that’s on the coaching staff (Haley and Tomlin), so yeah, it’s ok now since were winning but the offense is underachieving. how will this offense perform in a shootout with the Pats* or an nfc opponent like the saints, rams, or eagles?

been seeing the same thing.

the Bears showed the league how to slow the Steelers offense to a crawl and the Patriots** have known this for years.

imo Ben needs to be under center more and less shotgun I'm kinda old school see how opposing defenses are stopping the running game and exploite it with the passing game it work the other way also.

Ben under center 95% of the time it's a running play Ben in shotgun 95% of the time it's a pass play.

the way opposing defenses have been cheating to slow Bell down play action should be wide open. Sunday the Steelers did run one play action pass in the redzone guess what it was wide open for a touchdown.

It's no secret our offense is under achieving this year. Early on we blamed it on Ben's lack of playing in the preseason and Bell's hold out.

But we're 9 games in and still not firing on all cylinders. Last week Ben for 3 quarters didn't have time to get set. (O-line not pass protecting). The fourth quarter he seemed to have plenty of time (touchdown to Vance McDonald he had all day). Why is it we struggle on the line all game? Is our o-line only working part time this season? And why does Haley wait until the 4th quarter to put Nix in to block?
If Haley wants to call a run to the outside why not spell Bell and let Connor do it? He's got the speed to pick up yardage running wide. Scrap the reverse to MB. It isn't working.

PLAY ACTION. What the hell is wrong with play action? Quit being so damn predictable.
I know it's easy to pick Haley apart but right now he's making so easy that a caveman can do it.

Establish the run. If the opponent is stopping Bell give Connor a try. I'm good with RB by committee. If the line isn't blocking well enough Munchak needs to deal with that. If they're stacking the box it's time to throw the ball even if it's to JJ or Ju Ju intermediate routes (Bradyish). Don't call low percentage plays like bubble screens or reverses to MB that get us in 3rd and long.
So if Ben has lost his touch on deep throws don't call those plays as often, maybe once or twice a game instead of 5-6 or more. Call high percentage plays or am I wrong?

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/report-todd-haley-is-on-the-hot-seat/?ref=yfp

Quote :
That's according to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan, who on Tuesday said that Haley is currently in the "hot seat" after his offense struggled to score 20 points for the second consecutive game during Sunday's last-second victory over the Colts.

There's been some 'discussions' about Haley since his hiring. I'm not all set on the fact it's his fault, although being the OC, he's going to get the blunt of the blame.

I certainly think our offense should be performing better than 20 points per game at this point, and at the same time, I believe some where between Haley, the headset, Ben, and the execution there's something lost in translation.

Ben likes the deep ball, but he's consistently under throwing his WRs. He needs to check down and take the high percentage plays. Move the ball down the field and when we get inside the redzone, score freaking TDs.

With that being said, some times I get the feeling Haley is missing the meetings when they're scouting our upcoming opponents.

I still like Haley and believe he can turn the offense into the high power team it's lined up to be (on paper). But some times you've got to swallow the pride, deflate the ego, and play football.

Maybe having Haley in the pressbox would give him a better feel for the game and change his play calling? Just a guess.

The playcallers for all 32 teams and where their offenses rank

10. Pittsburgh Steelers

Offensive coordinator Todd Haley

Haley is in his sixth season with the Steelers, who have been among the NFL's most explosive offenses during his tenure. He comes from the Bill Parcells' coaching tree and has head-coaching experience with the Chiefs from 2009 to 2011. Haley has helped Ben Roethlisberger become a quick-strike passer from the pocket, though the Steelers have struggled to execute in the red zone this season, ranking 19th in scoring offense at 20.8 points per game. -- Jeremy Fowler

Anyone else think Bell looked a little slow last game? I'm wondering if his increased touches is catching up to him. 3.8 yards per carry is something you'd expect from a short yardage specialist / closer like the bus, not a feature back. He hasn't been winning the 1on1 matchups lately.

I think it is the Steelers offensive system when Ben is under center the Steelers run the ball about 95% of the time.

1st down defenses see Ben taking the snap under center "stay in your gap Bell is getting the Ball." It is time for the Steelers to address the giant elephant in the room, which is Todd Haley’s offense 312503953

2nd and long

2nd down defenses see Ben taking the snap in the shotgun " 3 deep zone keep everything in front of you." It is time for the Steelers to address the giant elephant in the room, which is Todd Haley’s offense 312503953

If the Steelers offense doesn't change some things up Thursday night Dick Lebeau's defense is going to eat up the Steelers offense.

I just explained Dick Lebeau's defense in its most simple terms above.

Haley isn't going anywhere right now, honestly I can't say anything to really defend the guy, the offense looked good tonight but a lot of that was our defense taking the ball away and giving the offense a lot of opportunities and short fields. The Titans D was on the field for so long they started to just break down. Right now it would only hurt the team this late in the season to fire the offensive coordinator. If this was Week 3, or 4 you could maybe get away with that, but with the offense being so inconsistent I don't think it'd serve them well to try and install a completely new system and coordinator late in the season.

If Haley is let go, it'll be in the offseason.

It seems the offense goes a lot smoother when they run no huddle. I don't care whether it's Ben or Haley idea, they should run more.

I agree.

This team came out on fire and then apparently forgot what got them down the field.

Considering the upcoming date with the GOAT Marsha Brady, our offense needs to be firing on ALL cylinders. That worked best last night with no huddle and keeping the defense on their heals.

I have been saying this for what... six seasons now? Todd Haley's play calls are either way too predictable or become momentum killers in the critical parts of the game. Yes, we can blame the defense for giving up 38 points today, there is no excuse there. Although Todd Haley doesn't know shit about controlling the time of possession which is the best kind of defense --> methodically moving the ball down the field.

It was no secret to anyone that the Jags weakness is against the run between the tackles and Haley didn't call one run play between the tackles on the first drive of the game. The result was giving the ball over to the Jags immediately and then it just snowballed from there! Then on 4th and 1 twice during the game, when keeping the drive alive was critical, he calls some stupid pitch to the outside and then a pass.

I have been saying for years now that he needs to be fired, because he hurts the offense more than he helps them. If you really look at when our offense began to improve, it was after we acquired Mike Munchak as our offensive line coach. It's just fuckin' sad, because we have all of this talent on offense and all Haley has done was cripple them.

None of it matters when your DEFENSE can’t stop the other team from scoring.... the Defense this year has been god awful.
