I hope this dude is really good so they can justify giving up a #1 for him because you know he's gonna play regardless. I can't say I feel good about this move at all. I hope I'm wrong.

might as well trade for a DB because Tomlin can't draft one to save his soul.

10 minutes before the trade, I said in a group message to my buddies who are Steelers fans that Ramsey requested a trade (meaning I was hoping we'd try to make a move on him) and my buddy said he hopes we get Fitzpatrick.

This was also the same buddy who said we hoped we drafted Bush

After saying I didn't feel good about giving up a 1st for Fitzpatrick I wouldn't want Ramsey on our team. He is the defensive AB twin IMHO. I said it about AB and I'll say it about Ramsey. It doesn't matter how good you are on the field if you keep the locker room in a constant state of upheaval.

well i doubt he will be any worse than davis. not that davis has been terrible, but he hasnt exactly had a Troy polamalu type impact for the defense .

i wonder if that played a part in it ? would they man up and admit to themselves they have been failing terribly in the draft at drafting Dbacks ?

I've been seeing and hearing a lot of hate for this trade. I don't get it. Sean Davis is a free agent after this year, and there's no way they'd give him what he's going to want (plus, he's not very good anyway). So we'd be looking at using a high draft pick, quite possibly our first-round pick, on a safety. We'd be drafting an unproven rookie who, based on our track record at drafting DBs, would end up being a bust.

So rather than looking at it as giving up a first-round pick for Fitz, I see it as Fitz being our 2020 first-round selection. Except he can play this year. And he's a proven commodity.

When you put it like that. Damn it man this is no time to make sense.

It's a risk, but I really like this trade. Steelers showing they have a lot of faith in Rudolph and Fitzpatrick. He was one of my favorite players in last year's draft and I'm glad he's now playing for us. Another plus is that he's very cheap as the Dolphins already have paid the most of his contract He will only cost us 5M in the next 3 years combined and we have an option for the year after.

I didn't know this was only his second season and didn't know anything about him. I have to admit I like what I see on replay. Good ball skills,hard hitter. Upon further review I think we got a deal here.

agreed on all points. they were exactly what i was thinking when i heard about the trade. davis isnt the worst safety we've had, but hasnt shown enough to me to make me believe he deserves a big contract. yes it is just like using a 1st on a safety that has already had NFL game experience. he is ahead of the curve. the rookie mistakes have already been learned.

I must admit I didn't love this trade when it happened. I hate giving up a 1st rounder - especially with a questionable year coming up, and Rudolph still unproven (is he really the QB of the future? Time will tell).

But Wallace, you make a great compelling argument. Fitzpatrick is top shelf. We have him for 3 years on the cheap. And Davis is likely gone after this year anyway (and isn't anywhere near as good).

I think the Steelers KNOW that Rudolph is the real thing. So that answers that. And one really good defensive player, in a strong area of need, can flip a defense. The Bears being a great example - with Mack, they have become a super bowl contender with a top shelf defense. Before Mack, they were nowhere close.

At first I never heard of this guy that I could remember. (keyword remember ) Now I'm optimistic about this season. I'm gonna say 10-6.

From this point on this season every win will be a celebration and every loss will be like meh,saw it coming.

Agreed on all points. To take it one step further, if Fitz could be included in the 2020 draft, he'd go in the top 5. Therefore, the Steelers traded the unknown 2020 draft position for a top 5, proven player. I'll take it.

Finally, he's known as a good character guy. I don't think it will take long for him to win Steelers Nation over.
