Only mildly surprised they let Gentry go. Although I suspect he will be back when they trade for Mann the extra punter they kept on. Getting a 6th rounder for Green is a steal.
This team should win at least 1 post season game if they can stay healthy. If they do I consider it a good season. 2 post season wins and it's beyond expectations. They have what it takes but they are still young next year is the year expectations should be another ring. At least in my book.

What if they trade Harvin instead?
I think he's looked really good in the off-season - but you never know.

They could both have been pretty similar during preseason.

If you've got two players that are even, you go with the younger one and save $.

after the draft i predicted Gentry was history and that heyward would be used as the fullback / 3rd string TE. well, now there is no dedicated fullback on the roster and it looks like heyward is the 3rd TE. i mean if one guy can fill 2 spot duty positions and free up a roster spot why not ? plus heyward has more value on special teams than gentry. but as preseason went on i was actually leaning towards they were keeping Gentry on the roster. they obviously are not keeping 2 punters, they're just letting harvin know he needs to be more consistent. Gentry in theory could be brought back, but i think they are looking for another CB .

In general I like the roster. Of course one punter should be traded and I'm hoping they find an upgrade for Pierre, Rudolph and Gunner somewhere.

This is honestly the first time in awhile where I can honestly say that IMHO the roster is pretty solid overall and there are no glaring issues.

I'd like to see Sims come back and ditch Gunnar. Sims was cut from Houston

I'd like to second that motion, Gunner hasn't shown me anything, Sims showed a lot more promise both within the offense itself and on special teams.

Not going to happen. Kenny has high praise for Gunner. He has spoke about him multiple times this off-season about how hard he works and is reliable and Kenny "knows where he will be".
I liked Sims too just don't think they will drop Gunner if Kenny really is comfortable with him at #5 guy.

I liked Sims but I'm actually in favor of keeping Gunnar, I've liked him since he arrived here. Works hard. And, as SF pointed out, if Kenny likes him out there, that's a tell.

the depth at punter is amazing ... i've seen it suggested that they think they the extra punter has trade value and thats why they hung on to him.

Looks like the Khan man ran out of luck and the teams interested in Mann realized he was going to get released anyways. Man if he'd of been able to pull off a trade for him I'd of been amazed.

sometimes teams are willing to make the trade and give some compensation, because they may not be able to get the guy because they are lower on the waiver list than another team who may be interested in the same player.

A good point, at least Khan tried to leverage that, good business practice. I know the Raiders were rumored to be interested in Mann, as well as the Eagles. I suspect one of those teams will be claiming him soon if they haven't signed someone else already.
