Rookie first-round pick David DeCastro has all but been anointed the Steelers’ starting right guard of not only the future but also the present.

Forgive Ramon Foster while he yawns.

If there is one thing Foster has grown accustomed to, it’s that he’s constantly being overlooked. But he has consistently proven the organization wrong.

“At this point, it is my nature to not let it bother me,” Foster said. “If something good happens for me, and I earn something, that’s OK with me. If a certain situation arises for me that is against me, I am going to fight for it. It’s my mentality.”

Foster was an undrafted rookie free agent who had little to no chance to make the team three years ago. He not only made the team, but he also played in 14 games, starting the final three.

The following year, Foster was in a training camp battle for a roster spot with third-round pick Kraig Urbik. Foster won and started the final 11 games, including Super Bowl XLV.

Still, there was plenty of doubt.

I like Foster. He was one of the better linemen on a crappy O-line. But if he somehow ends up starting over DeCastro, there's no way that's seen as anything other than disappointment in DeCastro.

I definately agree with you. DeCastro has far to much upside and it would be a real disapointment to see him on the bench come game 1 unless (God forbid) he is injured.

Of course it's somewhat of a stretch of the imagination to think that Foster can hold off DeCastro, but you have to love the fact that he's confident in himself. I too am a fan of Foster. He's a good player that is and has been on an upward trajectory and will be a very valuable backup with significant starting experience. I hope that the team works him at the tackle positions to increase his versatility. It will be interesting to see which backups are active on game day. They typically carry 7 active linemen on gameday. Do they activate Essex and Foster because Essex can play center now? Or will Legursky's ability to play any of the interior positions supersede Foster's superior play at guard? And what happens if they re-sign Starks? Of course he would have to be active on gameday, I would think, which would mean that they need a player that can play center, which would have to be either Legursky or Essex.

Welcome aboard, Dodens. Glad to have you here. There’s no counting out Steelers lineman Foster 230572241

I haven't put a whole lot of thought into the backups on the line. I think a lot of things depend on whether Adams is able to start. I notice you didn't mention Jonathan Scott. I'm not disappointed in that.
