Now that he's been released, the question is do the Steelers bring him back based on the facts?

I think they should give the kid a chance ----- especially if that neighbor who witnessed the event (the one that wrote to ESPN) account is true.

We haven't released a drunk driver that almost killed 1/2 the city of Pittsburgh, and we know for sure that he did do a bad, bad thing.

I know Rainey is small, but I'd like to see what he could do for at least one more season.

Do you think they will retract? What surprises me the most is that the Steelers reacted so swiftly. They didn't react that fast with Holmes or Ta'amu.

didn't the Steelers put Ta'amu on waviers then when no team pick him up the Steelers brought him back.

maybe their doing the same with Rainey. Rainey seems to have a problem with women.

Agreed I think they should bring him back

I'm beginning to wonder if the quick reaction had more to do with the season as a whole rather than Rainey specifically. We had Ta'amu's situation combined with an extremely disappointing season. Based on his recent comments, I think it's clear that Rooney is pissed about how the entire season played out. Rainey could have just been the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

As I often say, we have no way of knowing (unless someone says something) about what is said behind the scenes. It's possible they had a zero tolerance policy with Rainey from Day One. If that's the case, then it is what it is. But if they overreacted because of frustration or whatever, at least they have a few weeks to think about it because they can't release Rainey until after the Super Bowl.

You could be right on this seems they weren't hesitant on making this decision.

Releasing Rainey might have been the equivalent of a college team punishing itself to avoid NCAA sanctions.

Four, never underestimate the power of public relations. The Steelers have the widest female fan following of any NFL team. While Ta’amu did injure a woman during his chase, he did not intentionally reach out to hurt her. Rainey looked at his girlfriend and slapped her in the face.

Bouchette's first two possibilities are the same two possibilities I've thought about. Didn't think about possibilities three or four. My gut still says the correct answer is either Possibility No. 1 or No. 2.
