i think the 49ers got screwed

49ers 4th down pass to Michael Crabtree in the endzone Jimmy Smith held Crabtree on the play.

Michael Crabtree never had a chance to make a catch in the end zone on what turned out to be the San Francisco 49ers' last play of Super Bowl XLVII, a 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Some think it was because quarterback Colin Kaepernick's pass on fourth-and-goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game was too high. Others feel it was because of what should have been pass interference against the Ravens but wasn't called.

Certainly members of the latter group are the more vocal, since a penalty would have given the 49ers four more chances for the go-ahead score while the no-call essentially ended their chances for a comeback victory.

In the end it was a judgment call, and a tough one at that. Do you think the officials made the right one?

Forty Whiners fans are reminding me of the Seahawks back in Feb 2006. It's freakin' ridiculous.

The 49ers had opportunities to put the game away but didn't. Fumble, INT, etc. You can't blame one play. Hell even if you look at the first and goal in that series, Kapernick had the entire left side of the offense open to run or to throw to Gore but didn't - that's his mistake not the officials.

but was it or was it not defensive holding on the 4th down play? that was the question I was asking. didn't matter much to me because i took the Ravens and the points.

I think it was a good no-call. Crabtree was also pushing off.

If either team got screwed, it was the Ravens. That game was over at the start of the third quarter after Jacoby's return. The delay because of the lights going out killed all the momentum the Ravens had. Without the delay, that game never would have come down to a goal-line stop. Also, I can't remember the situation but I think it was 3rd down inside the 20, and Flacco got nailed out of bounds. It should have been a personal foul. Instead, the Ravens had to settle for a field goal. So no, I don't think the 49ers got screwed.

It says a lot when John Harbaugh comes out of a game looking like the classy coach.

Rapists don't get flags, that's why you rarely see roughing the passer calls on Roethlisberger.

when the lights came back on all the 49ers players were laying on the field bleeding from stab wounds.

If the Steelers were playing that play and the refs didn't throw a flag, we'd be saying good non-call this morning.

And had they thrown the flag we would be screaming bloody murder.

To me it is what it is I am not pointing fingers either way. The pass interference call on the 49'rs was not as bad as the one at the end of the game. If they are going to call that pass interference then the one at the end of the game should have been called.

The momentum change should not have anything to do with it. Both teams had to go through it so to me this is bullshit for either team to blame it on the power going out. I am just glad this game is over so we can get on with next year already.

I was convinced that Cary Williams was getting ejected when I saw that. It's a good thing he wasn't since he's the best CB with Webb out all season.

We always bitch and moan because there are too many flags thrown. "Let them play," we say. "The refs shouldn't decide the games," we say. In the Super Bowl, the refs kept the flags in their pockets and let them play. I was amazed at the lack of flags thrown in the game, especially during the early skirmishes. Usually, the refs are quick to throw flags early on to maintain control of a game. But these refs didn't. They let the players play. And they were consistent throughout the game. If they had thrown a flag on that fourth-down play, it would have been a change from the way they had reffed the rest of the game. If they had thrown the flag on the play, it would have been a case of the refs deciding the game.

Like Truck said, if it had been the Steelers on defense, everyone here would be saying it was a good no-call. And it was.

At least ratbird fans know what the Steelers felt like after SB 40, when the only thing people wanted to talk about was the officiating. Instead of just moving on and saying congratulations to the Steelers then, very few are moving on and saying congratulations to the ravens.
