The Baltimore Ravens have had discussions with the agent of former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison.
Bill Parise, Harrison's agent, told the Baltimore Sun that he and Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome have engaged in preliminary discussions.
"I've talked to Ozzie, sure have, had a good talk about James," Parise said. "It's early and we're not in negotiations, but we're having some good conversations. Baltimore would be an outstanding place for James to play because he knows the division and has that familiarity and they're a class organization. We'll see where it goes."
It's no surprise that teams are interested in Harrison -- Parise told the paper he's spoken with a total of seven teams about Harrison -- who was released by the Steelers a few days ago. But the Ravens are certainly an alluring destination for the 34-year-old linebacker. Baltimore has been depleted in recent days, especially their linebacking corps. Ray Lewis retired, while Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe jumped ship for Cleveland and Miami, respectively.
Harrison, the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 2008, may be showing signs of slowing down a bit. He had only six sacks in 2012 -- his lowest output since '06.
Still, if he comes at the right price, he could be a boon for a Ravens defense that is currently short-handed headed into 2013.
O M G !!!!!! Someone please tell me this isn't so!

| I doubt he'll sign with the Ravens. They're in a similar situation as we are. If they could get Harrison for cheap, I'm sure they'd try to sign him. But if he was willing to play for cheap, we wouldn't have released him. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart. Otherwise, you're just an ass. | |

| He's already played for the Ravens, so it wouldn't surprise me if he signed there again. _________________ "Either you're playing dumb, or it's not an act". -Judge Judy

- James Harrison rumors: Steelers LB 'coldest name' in free agency
By Alex Welch
James Harrison has spent his free agency period talking about the teams he'd like to play for in 2013. Unfortunately for Harrison, no one is reciprocating the interest in his services, as Sports Illustrated's Peter King labels the linebacker as the "coldest name" on the market right now.
Reporting from the NFL Annual League Meeting in Phoenix, King says he can't find anyone admitting to being interested in signing Harrison. The 34-year-old was released by the Steelers due to his steep contract for the coming season. He won't be playing for that same price again, as King notes.
It seems if he wants to play this year, he'll have to do it for less than half of what he was supposed to make for the Steelers. He should have taken the cut the Steelers were offering.

- Ravens were scheduled to meet with James Harrison
Posted by Darin Gantt
Tucked into a report in the Baltimore Sun in an oh-by-the-way fashion was one line that shows how serious the Ravens were about finding another pass-rusher.
According the Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec, former Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison “was due in Baltimore Sunday night for a free agent visit.”
Whether Harrison continues that trip, and whether the Ravens are still interested after dropping a five-year contract with a base value of $26 million, with $8.5 million in the first year for Dumervil remains to be seen. The indication from the report is that they’re no longer interested.

| With Dumervil being signed, I wonder how much interest the ratbirds have in Harrison now.
I'm just wondering how soon it will be before the Cardinals go after him. _________________ 60 MIN 53 MEN 1 NATION STEELERS NATION I am the MAN that created the MYTH that started the LEGEND Don't choose good when greatness is available! | |
