Bettis: Steelers Should Give Dwyer Another Chance

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) — With the Steelers’ running game taking a hit after Le’Veon Bell’s injury, KDKA’s Bob Pompeani chatted with retired Steelers great Jerome Bettis and got his take on their ground attack.

Bettis said that the recently-acquired Felix Jones brings speed, play-making ability, and a veteran presence to the Steelers’ backfield corps.

He’s disappointed that we’ll have to wait to see what rookie Le’Veon Bell is capable of, but in the meantime, he still believes in Jonathan Dwyer enough to support the idea of giving Dwyer one more chance to grab the starting job.

He explained that he has never been a believer in running back by committee and prefers riding one guy.

Sure didn't rack up many yards yesterday.

Truth is, we're not going to have a solid answer at this position this year. One week it might be one guy, the next it might be another.

Sigh....

I don't think Dwyer is a No. 1 back. He's a good backup, and occasionally breaks off a nice run, but he's too indecisive most of the time. And for how big he is, he goes down too easily. Obviously, I haven't seen enough from Bell to be able to judge him, but no way do I put Dwyer ahead of Redman.
