Ryan Clark has said some outrageous things over the years, but even he’s not about to pull a Joe Namath. The veteran safety is well aware of the predicament the Steelers find themselves. Still, he does not rule out a playoff berth.
No, that’s not a guarantee or merely a prediction. It’s fact, according to Clark.
“Are we mathematically eliminated? No,” said Clark. “Then it’s doable.”
At 0-4, the Steelers face very long odds. The 1992 Chargers were the last team to start a season with that record and advance to the playoffs. But when Clark looks up at the AFC North standings – the Browns, Bengals and Ravens are all 3-2 -- he sees not an insurmountable hole but an opportunity.
“The fact is, of the three teams in our division we play two of them twice,” he said. “We have another one at home, which I feel are five winnable games.
“Where our division is and where we are with the games we have remaining, we have a good chance to be a playoff team.” I agree with what Ryan said. But at some point, you have to stop saying and start doing. The Steelers are the kind of team that can get hot around playoff time and make a run. But it won't do them any good if they miss the playoffs by a game or two because they racked up too many losses early in the season. _________________ If you're going to be a smart ass, you'd better be smart.
