When the Rooney family forced Bruce Arians out as offensive coordinator, the thought by many was that they were tired of his air it out ways, and wanted to return to “Steelers football” by running the ball.
The Steelers focused on the offensive line, and acquired two very talented ball carriers… and then Big Ben showed us all why this is still his team (despite the stinker in New Jersey last week).
The beauty of the renewed focus on the running game though, is that the Steelers offense should be able to change and score points in different ways, depending on what’s happening in the game.
This would be a good week to let Ben get back to his typical 200 yards and 1 or 2 touchdown types of games, and let Le’Veon Bell do the heavy lifting for the offense.
The Titans rank 11th in the NFL in terms of passing yards given up per game. Not dominant, but they have some talented guys in the secondary and some pass rushers that have given the Steelers trouble in the past.
The Titans definitely aren’t doing as well when it comes to stopping the run game, where they rank 29th in the NFL.
Just last week Ravens running back Justin Forsett carried the Ravens to a relatively easy win with 112 yards on 20 carries, and scored two touchdowns in the process. Bernard Pierce chipped in another 31 yards on 8 carries.
There’s no reason the Steelers can’t do the same thing this week, control the clock, and get out of Tennessee with an easy win heading into the bye.
